Lindsay (1693 KP) rated Dark and Light: A Small Collection of Poetry in Books
Feb 15, 2018
This book of poetry is a short and quick read. I understood 2 of the 3 poems other then that it was an okay book. There not much to read but I liked the poems in the book.

Poetry is one of those things that requires a rare talent to do well. Like a work of art a poem must transcend it's physical representation and excite the subconscious. This collection of short poems illustrates that perfectly.
A great anthology to dip into now and again, each poem demands an emotional response from the reader. Even when the actual subject matter may be obscure, the feelings and power behind the words is clear.
This is definitely worth reading and reflecting on, even if you are not usually interested in poetry

Ruth Frampton (577 KP) rated Light and Dark Leftovers & Other Odds and Sins in Books

Poetry can be a very personal thing, or it can be a thing of great beauty transcending a generation or a county and becoming part of your very being. Alternatively, poetry can be throw away, a collection of sounds meant to inspire thought or simply to entertain, but in my experience, this latter form is often difficult to capture on the page and even harder to recreate in the minds and hearts of a reader. I would love the hear these poems performed, read out, expressed and felt, perhaps then their inner rhythm would show itself and make sense. Sadly, as these poems are written I am robbed of that experience, and as such find little to draw me back to their tale. If you like written performance style poetry this will be for you, I hope I get the chance to hear them one day.
Cyn Armistead (14 KP) rated Welcome to Bordertown (Borderland #8) in Books
Mar 1, 2018
I've long wanted to read the Bordertown books, but I haven't had any luck in finding them. So I was very happy to see this anthology. It is very high-quality, other than some of the poetry that feels somewhat last-minute.

The protagonist in this book is Sylvia, a woman in her thirties with a partner who loves poetry and is always quite laid back, The Toddler – full of energy and wit, and The Baby – who is the reason of Sylvia’s sleepless nights.
