2 stars I think. We watched it with my boyfriend as part of our Jude Law backlist. The story was poor - all this mystery for nothing. Polly was so annoying throughout. And then, out of nowhere, Angelina Jolie appears as a one-eyed sky plane pirate.
Nope - not for me this one.

P.S. I admired Jude Law a lot in this movie. He is so sexy to watch. Honest!

Polly Perks leaves home to join the army, to look for her brother. Naturally, as it’s a male dominated institution, she has to disguise herself. The short hair cut is easy, it’s the learning to belch, fart and swagger like an ape that takes time. Plus a well placed pair of rolled up socks in a strategic position makes all the difference.

She’s off to fight for her country Borogravia, a country that picks wars with other countries almost as often as a small child picks its nose.

Polly (or Ozzer as she becomes known) joins a raggedy band which becomes known as the Monstrous Regiment, lead by the legendary Sergeant Jackrum. A troupe consisting of a troll, a vampire, an Igor, and others. All with a big secret.

Although part of the Discworld novels, this can be read as a stand-alone novel. a thoroughly enjoyable read, which brings in some old Discworld characters we know and love.

Aging star Polly Pepper has landed a job in Glendale for the summer reprising her leading role in Mame. But when the director is murdered the second day of rehearsal, she has to clear a co-star. The book is fun and the characters are wacky, but the novel can be overwritten at times.

Living legend Polly Pepper joins her fellow cast members from her TV show on a cruise to relive their glory days. However, the first night out, one of the co-stars is murdered. This is the fourth in the series, and the characters were still over the top fun, however the plot was very easy to figure out.

A pretty successful debut ... original, darkly erotic and thrilling and one which will make you look a bit harder the next time you are on a train .... or not!

This book is not one I would normally go for as I tend to keep away from overly sexual books but there was something about the synopsis that attracted me to read this ... maybe it's my dark side coming out!

The main character, Polly, is a complex and deeply flawed individual formed by a troubled upbringing and addictive personality. Not happy with her seemingly perfect life, Polly goes awry following an erotic encounter on the tube and she becomes addicted to finding that stranger again and in the process, becomes embroiled in the what can only be described as "seedy" practice of #tubing.

Written at a fast pace in an easy-to-read style with great characters, this book will immerse you in a hidden world that might just exist in the cramped and overcrowded tube system.

Thank you to the publisher, RedDoor Publishing, and NetGalley for my copy in return for an honest and unbiased review.

I look forward to Ms McKeagney's next outing.

Killing themselves w that name
I didnt get the opportunity to see this show until this year after someone said I had to watch it. The name threw me off everytime it was a suggested watch. Its a drama with amazing sets and acting and story. It reminds me of Yellowstone in a lot of ways. Exceptional script and direction. The seasons go on and on and you soon understand that you never can tell how a certain character will act. Twists every episode.

Can I give this 10 stars??? Seriously though, probably my favorite book I have read all year. Newton & Polly is such a powerful and beautiful story of love and redemption. Of God's forgiveness and his grace. No matter what we have done, no matter where we go, the decisions we make, God's grace is enough. His love is enough. His forgiveness is enough. All of us are sinners. All of us are in need of God's grace. All of us fall short of perfection. We can not earn his love or forgiveness. He gives it freely. All we have to do is open our heart to it and receive it. We are human though, and we will continue to make mistakes, but it is important that we keep our eyes focused on the Lord, on his goodness and grace.

Newton and Polly's story is one that I was unfamiliar with. I knew John had lived quite the life prior to converting, but I had no idea the impact that Polly had on him. True to Jody's fashion, most of the events in this novel are based on fact. Of course there is a bit of creative liberties, but it is fiction. Overall I feel that she portrayed their story of romance and redemption magnificently. She portrays John's deep adoration and love in a way that is breathtakingly beautiful and precious. Newton's story brings a whole new meaning to the words of his song...He was a wretch...BUT GOD...God's grace led him home.

I was moved to tears multiple times while reading this book, and again while creating the graphics, and again when I watched a video of the song, and again while writing this review. The presence of God is all over this book. I could go on for hours about the incredible story within the covers of this book...But I urge you to read it for yourself. If you can't purchase it, request it from your public library. Borrow it from a friend that owns it...Get this book in your hands! If you only read one book this year...Let it be Newton & Polly. You will not regret it. And I pray that as you read Newton and Polly's story you let God's love surround you and let his grace move through you and cleanse your soul.

I received a free copy of Newton & Polly from Waterbrook & Multnomah Publishing in exchange for my honest review. All opinions expressed are mine alone.

Well this book definitely brought more than I was expecting. It crept under my skin pretty bad, I will be looking around the carriage every time I’m on the tube.

The main character in this novel was Polly. She has a great job and perfect boyfriend, but she gets obsessed with the stranger, who had sex with her on the tube in front of everyone. She liked it so much that she is ready to risk everything for Tubing. And what really got me, why would you lose everything because of a shag? I really did not like Polly’s character. I did not like the way she thought about everything: her career, her boyfriend, her friends. I was sad and angry of how she was slowly destroying her life and didn’t care a bit about it. 😦 If I would’ve been Oliver, she would’ve been on the street a long time ago.

The narrative was told from single, Polly’s perspective and I think the idea is incredibly original. I really loved the topics which author was discussing in this book, such as family relationships and postnatal depression, as well as eating disorders. I found them really interesting to read about. I picked this book because of the title. I wanted to see, how much information there is going to be about the tube, and how well the research has been done. I do have to agree that I did learn some new things from this novel, however, there was quite a bit of the information about the tube which was not very accurate. (Just trust me on this 😉 ) I think author’s life and work experience was utilized very well, she lived in London and has a great knowledge of how the newspaper publishing works, and I really enjoyed reading about it.

The writing style was really pleasant to read with decent length chapters, which didn’t drag for me at all. I found this book quite easy to read, and the chapters just flew by, I really got engrossed in the story. I would like to throw in a disclaimer that there is plenty of sex scenes in this novel so, I wouldn’t recommend it for very young readers. The ending of this book was well deserved but didn’t leave me fully satisfied. It left my questions unanswered and I wanted to know more about what happened to Polly after everything. So, to conclude, even though I was very angry on Polly and other characters most of the time, I really enjoyed the plot and all the events which Polly had to endure. I think it is really amusing to read and would recommend to give it a go and indulge yourself into the disturbing world of Tubing, just PLEASE DO NOT TRY IT IN REAL LIFE! 😀

It was a bit daunting to begin with, knowing that I had to read this in less than 10 days to get my review posted within the deadline but I somehow managed it!

Polly is a yoga instructor and perfume blogger, with a chaotic life. Everything was fine until her husband left her out of the blue, with no explanation. Polly is left with the mystery of why he went – something that is always on her mind.

My initial impression was how much I love Polly. She runs a blog called Fragrant Cloud, and blogs about memories, places and events, linking them to different scents that remind her of them. I love this obsession with fragrances, and I can really relate to it, working in a candle shop my whole life revolves around them! I love how she can categorise any event by what fragrances it makes her think of. I just feel like this makes Alderson’s writing so unique and compelling.

About halfway through I found myself completely addicted! I needed to find out about the mysterious Guy and I loved Chum, but felt like there was definitely a lot hidden below the surface of his character. There definitely seemed to be a bit of a love triangle going off here, and I was curious as to what was going to happen with it.

Alderson’s writing really reminds me of Cecelia Ahern and Marian Keyes, and I think that’s why I found the book so easy to get into and enjoy. Her writing flows really nicely and freely, and the characterisations are natural and lifelike.

It actually surprised me that the book had a large sense of mystery to it surrounding the sudden disappearance of Polly’s husband. From the description, I didn’t realise it would take such a major role in the plot. This was quite a pleasant surprise and I actually really enjoyed the mystery aspect to it. I would normally avoid novels which have a large amount of mystery in the plot because I struggle with them, but this has made me a bit more open minded to the genre.

Overall, The Scent of You is a lovely novel, especially if you love romances with a little bit of mystery.

Movie Favorite

"The original was called Pollyanna, and then they did a remake of the film, called Polly, and it had Phylicia Rashad in it. It was probably one of the first musical films I had ever seen that was fully… Pretty much almost fully cast of Black men and women and children. And I think it was one of the reasons I was like, “Oh, I can do musicals. I can be in them. This is cool.” And I love the music. I still remember the songs, and it’s been a while since I’ve watched it. I have the VHS of it. I don’t even know if they do it on DVD. I don’t know if you can even get it on iTunes. But I loved it."
