I really enjoyed this book, and hope Battis returns to this world. His prose is lyrical, engaging—a major departure from most of the urban fantasy genre. There were a few little consistency blips that made me think that the book had been edited with less care than it deserved, but they didn't detract seriously from the plot.

I love this game. It is a relaxing game that doesn't require too much brain power. As a gamer that isn't into shooting games or racing games this game is brilliant. The music is calming. All the dialogue is written in prose. And I'm a massive fan of the watercolouresque of the graphics.

Absolutely amazing! Hill's Woman in Black is a masterpiece in the ghost story genre. It is chilling, sinister with a macabre yet delectable twist at the end.
Yet, not only is this a superb plot but Hill's prose is so magnificently crafted with frequent clever juxtaposition of contrasting comforting imagery with sinister darkness.
Scary, horrible, completely brilliant!

The Chocolate Lady (94 KP) rated The Collected Works of Billy the Kid in Books
Oct 7, 2020
This is a unique hybrid of poetry and prose, mixed with both historical fact and fiction based on the true life story of the famous American outlaw William Bonney, who was better known as "Billy the Kid". Have we found another Ondaatje? J.R. Crook's debut novel might just remind you of his style, but is ultimately unique. The brevity of the book does nothing if not emphasize the power of the prose and impact of its meaning. You can read my review here https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2015/04/08/a-dream-within-a-dream/

ClareR (5674 KP) rated The Handmaid’s Tale: The Graphic Novel in Books

A worthy addition to the original story.
This is a beautifully illustrated graphic novel which remains true to the original novel by Margaret Atwood. It seems even more disturbing with the pictures: the starkness of the almost black and white background against the red of the Handmaids clothes, not only makes the Handmaids stand out, it also, for me, highlights their separateness or ‘otherness’.
It’s a while since I read the original book, but the prose in it felt right. It’s not all prose in speech bubbles, there are more in-depth, explanatory short paragraphs - and I think they really worked well.
I thoroughly enjoyed this, and I can see myself reading this again and again - and I might just have to re-read the original too, especially in the lead up to The Testaments.

Wittsend (43 KP) rated Gap of Time: The Winter's Tale Retold in Books

Gap of Time
Enjoyed the book. The book is beautiful and clever, emotionally wrought and profoundly intelligent it will pull the reader into its wise world of jealousy, paranoia, grief, revenge and forgiveness in the stunning prose; however, I would like to add that the author could have conveyed its character Leo's anger and message across without the heavy use of foul language.
