People will put up with all manner of perversion, all manner of fucked-up-ness, they’ll positively revel in it, but what people won’t tolerate is boredom.

To a certain extent, I did enjoy this, but I don't feel comfortable saying that due to the depravity and obscenity of it. This certainly has some American Psycho vibes to it, a book which I thoroughly enjoyed, but Cold Calling somehow seems to excel Bateman's darkness with Rhys' spur-of-the-moment crime. I suppose because in American Psycho, there is a clear underlying cultural message and in Cold Calling, that same message doesn't get across so easily, if it's even there at all.

Wilks' writing is good, there's no doubt about that, he keeps you reading and wanting more no matter how disturbed you feel. There's a card game scene in the middle of the novel that I got a bit tired with, but it was to develop the growing anger, boredom and hatred inside of Rhys.

This is definitely NOT one for the squeamish. I'm not surprised this has several low ratings, it's certainly a difficult novel to handle and is only going to be enjoyed by a very niche market.

One thing I really love about this book is the gruesome cover art!

Thanks to Haydn Wilks for sending me a copy in exchange for a review!

Meh
I was expecting so much from this movie and it didn't pay off. I thought this was going to be about "what if superman was a normal kid who got bullied and so used his new found powers for revenge." Instead we got "strange psycho alien kid who used to be completely normal and now he is insane because reasons." Not gonna lie, the gore was slightly entertaining, but the kid actor was off-putting; and not in a horror movie kind of way.
The concept of the movie had the potential to be something special and give something different to the superhero genre, but instead we got another hash of "The Omen" movies.

"My number one is American Psycho, 2000. A masterful adaptation of words to cinema by Mary Harron, an important American director, and writer. She made Alias Grace, The Notorious Bettie Page, I Shot Andy Warhol, et cetera. This is adapted from Bret Easton Ellis’s 1991 novel that was set in the 1980s. And I think that the film resonates even more now than when it was made almost 20 years ago. Though at the time it was called sexist filth by some [laughs]. Christian Bale’s performance is brutally riveting, and the entire cast– Willem Dafoe, Chloe Sevigny, Reese Witherspoon, and Jared Leto – are all just really good. There’s also an uncut ‘Killer Collections’ edition, which I would strongly recommend. It’s a great film."

Anthony Perkins is absolutely creepy as Norman Bates
On a first time viewing this film is guaranteed to subvert your expectations more than once.
The infamous shower scene
The film may come off as dated to younger viewers, but generally it still holds up . (0 more)
This belongs on the top 10 horror films of all time. Psycho is perfection and the best work from one of the best directors in horror history. This film isn't a slasher, but it paved the way for sure. Anthony Perkins gives the performance of a lifetime and the film holds up all these years later. Completely suspenseful film that is intelligent and has one of the greatest shocking reveals in all of film history. This is a MUST WATCH for any film fan, PERIOD.
