Greer Macallister’s third historical fiction novel is once again one that includes elements of a thriller and those of an action novel, all while including the psychological aspects of the mentally ill and their treatment during the latter part of the 19th century. Take a look at what I thought of this novel in my newest #bookreview on my blog here. https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2019/03/15/pulling-a-nellie-bly/

WOW!!!
Holy crap!! Everything I thought I had figured out was wholly disintegrated by the revelation that I was not ready for. I started reading this last night and was immediately pulled into this mind-bending read. The twists and turns of the plot are outstanding, and though I loved the characters, I can't comprehend how Finn just didn't know. I recommend this psychological thriller to one and all.

An Exceptional Psychological Thriller!
This exceptional psychological thriller from Peter Swanson (author of ‘The Kind Worth Killing’), is an absolute masterpiece!

Henrietta ‘Hen’ Mazur and her husband, Lloyd Harding, have dinner one evening with their new neighbours, Matt and Mira Dolamore, at their suburban Boston home. Following dinner, on a tour of their house, Hen notices a fencing trophy in Matt’s study that she believes was won by Dustin Miller, a college student who was murdered two years previous and who attended the high school where Matt is a history Professor. Matt claims that the trophy was bought in a sale, but Hen, who is obsessed with Dustin’s case, suspects that Matt killed Dustin. However, the next day when she visits Mira, the trophy has vanished, thereby reinforcing her suspicions. But Hen gets little support from the Police or her husband because of her history of mental health problems. An unlikely bond then develops between Hen and Matt, whose traumatic childhood adds tonnes of emotional interest to Peter Swanson’s superb narrative. Lots of twists and turns and an edge-of-your-seat plot keep the suspense in “Before She Knew Him” really high until the fulfilling and dramatic conclusion.

This brilliant psychological novel is a fabulous page-turner and a definite winner.

Three girls held a deep, dark secret. Three girls made a promise they vowed to keep forever. Now something and someone is threatening that promise. Will the truth come out or will these women do anything possible to keep their secret hidden forever?

I found this to be an excellent psychological suspense story. Some may describe this as a slow burn but I found the pace to be perfect for this story. The characters build and grow with the story as does the plot as told from past to present. The ending you won't see coming.
The are loads of little hints dropped through the story and some are just red herrings to keep you guessing. I found myself totally absorbed and unable to put the story down til done.
All in all I thoroughly enjoyed this psychological story with all it's dark twists and turns!

Many thanks to Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and enjoy!

An average thriller
I recall watching this at the cinema when this was first released and thought it was alright, and watching it again 5 years later my view hasn't really changed.

This has a good cast, I always love Jason Bateman and it's nice to see Joel Edgerton directing and acting and I think he does a good job in both. The plot itself seems very similar to other stalker/obsessive/revenge films but it's still quite entertaining and fortunately not overly long. The problem is I wouldnt say this is particularly thrilling or tense. The ending is a little surprising but it feels rather lacklustre in general as a psychological thriller. I also found character motivations and actions to be a little unusual and unexplainable, to the point it makes the film even more unbelievable than it is to begin with.

Overall it's an average watchable psychological drama which is sadly ultimately forgettable.

A Psychological Mindf*ck
I was worried when I first started watching this show. I've seen so many TV shows labeled 'thriller' that just doesnt hold up to my expectations and I find myself neither afraid or thrilled. For the most part I find myself disappointed.
However, I could not look away for a single moment during this show. The twists and backstorys that unfold are not only thrilling but sends shivers down my spine. The whole show I found myself at the edge of my seat as it takes you deeper and deeper into the mind and past of this single character. I find myself almost adoring the way it would send shivers down my spine and raise goosebumps along my arm. For anyone who enjoys a psychological thriller and are looking for a TV show that can actually hit the mark, I reccomended giving this show a try.

Nolan is a master of dark plots and cinematography
This is a psychological mind-bend of a film bringing together dreamlike sequences as well as action shots. Director Christopher Nolan gives you bits and pieces of information, and as the movie plays out the viewer begins to put the pieces together and the picture gradually becomes clearer. It's intelligent and engrossing, not your average Hollywood blockbuster.

True psychological mystery, as in, you may qualify for a psych degree after reading this. . I didn't figure anything out at all. Just when I thought I had, something changed it. The power of the mind is incredible. I couldn't put this one down once I really got into it. I did get a little confused by some of the twists and psycho babble, but it all worked itself out in the end.

And I thought my family was twisted!

Andrews really puts you into the story and into the mind of Cathy. But there is a LOT of mature content in this book! Wow! Between rape, incest, child abuse, and psychological trauma, you'd think it would be a depressing experience but you're rooting for the kids the entire time! But take it from me...draw out a family tree to keep track of who is who.

Missed opportunity
A slow burner of a horror which is more psychological creepy than really scary. It's very subtle with the scares which come about more from the atmosphere created. Unfortunately the ending felt rushed and fell flat. Also a couple of things just didn't fit in how the characters would act in certain situations.
Overall not bad, but after a slow good build up it falls apart a little at the end.
