There are certain films that split audiences straight down the centre. Just look at @Mother! (2017) Darren Aronofsky’s Jennifer Lawrence-starring psychological horror that saw some critics awarded five-stars and others just one.

Using data from Metacritic, tech website Gizmodo has taken date from 9516 films, gathering details from 190,000 reviews by at least 842 named critics to scientifically work out the world’s most critically divisive films. So which films did you love and hate?

Gizmodo UK has analysed data on Metacritics to determine the most divisive films ever:

Took me out of my comfort zone
As an ardent crime-fiction reader, I was surprised how much I loved this psychological thriller. I read it with a friend and we were gripped with the characters. Although it was a bit confusing at the start, after a few chapters it became a plausible read. Definitely took me away from my reading-comfort-zone. I even enjoyed the film....though that should definitely be viewed after reading the book.

I really enjoyed this book, it had me hooked from the first page till the very end. this book is full of twists and turns and you never know what's going to happen with every page you read. when you get near the end the book comes to life with all the suspense. this is a fantastic psychological thriller, that you will defiantly enjoy from start to finish.

This book. I don't even know what to say. It's been compared to Gone Girl, but I don't really think they have that much in common. I preferred the ending in this one, I like people to get their comeuppance. I felt bad for the main character, Rachel, I mean she had her issues, but I feel like deep down she's a good person. Anyway, if you like psychological thrillers, I recommend checking this one out!

Watched a good "psychological horror" flick on Amazon called "Static". The acting was decent. It starred Sara Paxton and Milo Ventimiglia. The cinematography was, ok, but the storyline unfolded really well with some really good twists. Starts out slow but picks up nicely. No gore or nudity. Entertaining enough to get through the whole thing. If you pay real close attention, you might be able to figure out the ending ahead of time. Worth a watch!

Paton Smashes it again... Must Watch
A fantastic Low Budget Psychological horror that shows us that the monsters lurking in the woods are not necessarily the scariest thing imaginable. Director Tom Paton turns vampire movies on there head a little while showing complete respect to the genre and giving us something new. Fantastic performances from the leads that really pull you in and have you on the edge of your seat right till the conclusion. Great Flick... 5*s

"“Parasite” starts as a novel of manners that relentlessly metamorphoses into a black comedy, ghost story, psychological thriller, horror movie, and ends in an unexpected but inevitable tragedy. It was a unanimous Palme d’Or winner at the Cannes Film Festival this year and I will never forget the faces and enthusiasm of all the jury members after we had the privilege to see it being presented to the world for the first time at the Palais…"

"I wouldn’t say this is one of my favorites, but it was definitely shocking—a very challenging film and a very delicate subject. It’s dark, psychological, and medical—which is not necessarily the best combo for, you know, a date movie. But there was nothing like it. There was nothing like it before and I don’t think anything really like it afterwards. To me it felt like a risk, and I enjoyed that aspect of it."
