Dean (6927 KP) rated DC'S Legends of Tomorrow - Season 1 in TV

More average than legendary
Having got into the Arrow and then the Flash series I thought this could be rather good with several characters from each show teaming up. Unfortunately the plot of not using the other shows main characters... They would cause too much of a ripple in the time line, or studio fees... Does raise some questions, but it gets overwhelming with too many characters and feels like it's target audience might be younger than the other shows. Overall it is less than the sum of it's parts.

Great just got better
3 episodes into season 2 and I'm even more hooked than I was watching season 1. The action hits you straight after the 1st minute or 2 in episode 1 and your right back with the trio looking for God and hitting some pretty funny and gory obsticals on their way. Plot gets thicker and delves into some of the open ended and unanswered questions left from season 1. Overall if the rest of the season stays this strong it will be an amazing ride.

A deeply disturbing psychological drama
I would not consider this a conventional thriller as it was understandable that the ending would play out in such a way. But it is a harrowing, horribly grim perspective on intergenerational sexual abuse and incest. It raises questions about how such acts can continue to happen over long periods of time, how abusers manipulate their victims to make them feel they are to blame in their trauma as well as the complicity of outside factors such as the other parent and the outside community. A horrifying look at patriarchal structures.

Brilliant acting
Krysten Ritter and David Tennant
Another brilliant Marvel TV series
Jessica Jones follows Daredevil as another Netflix original about a non-mainstream Marvel superhero. It also follows the same path that brings out the dark and gritty side of the Marvel universe. Not everything is black and white here, there's a lot of grey area and as a result the series poses a lot of questions you wouldn't get in the films.
Krysten Ritter is brilliant as Jones and is supported by a brilliant cast that includes David Tennant as the increasingly disturbing Kilgrave.

Great SFX (2 more)
Nice set up for next film
Great action sequences
Disappointing if no follow up (2 more)
Some dodgy characters
Weak love story line
Overall I really enjoyed this film. You can tell straight away that James Cameron had a massive effect on this film, even Alitas eyes look like something straight from Avatar.
The overall story was great and intriguing and most questions I had were answers, although not all but expect a second film would answer those.
If you can I highly recommend going to see this on the big screen as the visuals are beautiful.

Watched it again last night as had not seen it for a while, still enjoyed it. I have questions though - when the rest of the crew woke up 88 years later, yes they found a changed ship but were there descendants of the main characters on the ship or would they have found two decomposed bodies (sorry about that). Sometimes it is good to watch a film where there are only a couple of people in it because you can then get to know them whereas if you watch a fully cast film some of the characters get lost.

Awix (3310 KP) rated Out of Blue (2019) in Movies
Apr 10, 2019 (Updated Apr 10, 2019)
Bafflingly impenetrable crime drama. A young woman is found dead from a gunshot wound; assigned to the case is veteran homicide detective Mike Hoolihan (Clarkson) who finds it opens up many unanswered questions from her own past, raising many demons.
Sounds fairly straightforward, but film's many strange pretensions - discussion of quantum theory, astrophysics - and dourly humourless tone make it intensely hard work. Why does title not include word 'the'? It's a mystery. Why does this review not include word 'the'? Well, you've got to do something for entertainment, and this film certainly doesn't fit bill. Feels weirdly incompetent on many levels.

This is a pretty good film, although saying that there is not really a lot of "story" to make a film of here. Especially When Will Smith is the last man on Earth, but despite this he gives a great performance and the film holds your interest even with the majority of it having just one character. There are some cool scenes of a deserted New York city (Where else!) but some of the other effects are so-so. Unfortunately there are a lot plot holes in the story and many questions that won't be answered. Good viewing but not groundbreaking.
