Bong Mines Entertainment (15 KP) rated Dawn - Single by Mackenta in Music
Jun 18, 2019
Mackenta is a singer-songwriter based in Toronto, Canada. Not too long ago, she released a music video for her “Dawn” single.
“I’ve noticed a common theme throughout my past relationships. Both parties weren’t really ready for something serious yet boundaries weren’t established. Therefore, causing a lack of respect. ‘Dawn’ is about falling for someone that you know won’t work in the long run, but letting it happen anyways.” – Mackenta
The audiovisual finds Mackenta chilling at a skate park with her significant other, played by Ty Senoj.
‘Dawn’ contains a relatable storyline, ear-welcoming vocals, and chill instrumentation flavored with a contemporary R&B aroma.
“I felt a lot of mixed emotions while writing ‘Dawn’. Nostalgia over the good memories and potential. Resentment about not being something more. Shame over allowing the situation to escalate so far. I’m telling it from my point of view, so there’s a sense of blame towards this person who is not mature enough to take things seriously. Also, realizing that I’m equally to blame for not drawing the line or understanding my own intentions. Ultimately, it’s about two people who both need to heal before they could ever be together.” – Mackenta
‘Dawn’ will be featured on Mackenta’s upcoming EP, which will drop later this year.

Bong Mines Entertainment (15 KP) rated Oh No! - Single by EMAN8 in Music
Jul 10, 2019
EMAN8 (Brandyn Burnette) is an LA-based artist from Saint Louis, MO. Not too long ago, he released a groovy urban pop tune, entitled, “Oh No!”.
“Baby, you so sick you make me nausea. Please forgive me I’m just being cautious. I know that you got a couple of options. Lately, you’ve been checking all my boxers. All my homies told me not to fall for it. Put me on the court and I’ma ball for it. I just need to know if you are all in. I know that you’re drunk that’s why you’re calling.” – lyrics
‘Oh No!’ tells an interesting tale of a young guy who has high hopes for a problematic relationship which he shares with his significant other.
Apparently, he can’t believe what she tells him and can’t decipher if it’s a nightmare or dream that he has fallen deeply into.
Later, he admits that this was everything he ever wanted, but every day feels like it’s haunted.
‘Oh No!’ contains a cautionary storyline, harmonious vocals, and groovy instrumentation flavored with urban R&B and hip-hop elements.
EMAN8 hopes to emanate the true authentic vibration of his experiences, soundscapes, and songwriting.
His name comes from his Jamaican middle name “Emanate”, which means to come forth.

Bong Mines Entertainment (15 KP) rated Becky and the Birds by Becky and the Birds in Music
Jun 7, 2019
Becky and the Birds (Thea Gustafsson) is a talented R&B/Soul singer-producer out of Örebro, Sweden. Not too long ago, she released her wonderful self-titled debut EP.
But creating the 7-track project had obstacles. The 21-year-old vocalist experienced dark emotions and even battled depression.
Ultimately, she overcame her frustrations and obstacles and stitched together her EP. She perfumed it with her unique genre-spanning blend of lush sounds.
Becky’s desire to have everything in an arrangement can be attributed to her time spent at the prestigious Musikmakarna Songwriters Academy of Sweden, the place that kickstarted the careers of LÉON and Skott.
Even though the Becky didn’t fit into the school’s pop agenda, she learned a lot there. Later, she interned at an EDM/House label but didn’t fit in there either.
Not knowing where to turn, she went through a dark period. But there was light at the end of the tunnel, and she walked towards it. Once in the sunlight, she created her self-titled album.
BECKY
The EP begins with a voice recording of a person named Becky, a 26-year-old Capricorn. The individual has a muffled, male-sounding voice, lives alone in an apartment, and has two friends, one a bird.
MALAYSIA
Becky, the singer, sings a beautiful song over a dreamy electronic composition perfumed with soul and passion.
The singer yearns to go to Malaysia. To see the birds in the sky and feed the ones on the ground. Also, she visions herself sitting, watching them fly.
The song highlights the meaning behind Gustafsson’s stage name. Apparently, she has a deep connection with birds.
DIE WHILE YOU LOVE ME INTRO
The intro begins with a poem by Georgia Douglas Johnson, entitled, “I Want to Die While You Love Me”, recited by Maya Angelou.
DIE WHILE YOU LOVE ME
Becky, inspired by the legendary poem, takes the tempo up a couple of notches. Also, she packages the song with dreamy vocals and crisp production.
CONCEPT STORE
The song incorporates jazzy pianos with bass and elements of hip-hop. Also, Becky’s lush vocals soar through the track alongside samples she plucked straight out of nature.
HOLDING ON
The song is one of Becky’s acclaimed singles. It features lush electronics, a splash of trip-hop, and elements of ‘90s R&B music.
MY MAN
Becky ends the 7-track EP on a smooth note. She wants us to know that her man is holding her strong, mentality and physically.
CONCLUSION
Becky and the Birds’ self-titled EP is short and sweet. Also, it leaves a lasting impression, prompting listeners to want to hear more.

Merissa (11646 KP) rated A Hint of Frost (Araneae Nation #1) in Books

A Hint of Frost (Araneae Nation #1) by Hailey Edwards
It's not often that someone can do something different with a well known genre but Hailey Edwards has managed it. There are a lot of different clans in this world, all with confusing (to me!) names but the life and spark that Hailey has created is wonderful. There are aspects of this story that I was cringing at to begin with - as you are supposed to! It's written in a way that makes it horribly good. But then as you read more and understand more, you see how something has been abused and debased. It becomes less horrible as an act and more horrible towards the person doing it. Confused? Then give this book a try and see for yourself.
The world is well written and you can tell a lot of thought has been put into this world, the clans in it and the relationships between people, both those of inside and outside the clan. The characters are all very well written and even though it is written from the first person POV, nothing is lost.
This world is too good to read just one book and then leave. The others are now firmly on my T-B-R list.
