After receiving a worrying message from her estranged brother, Beth Davis sets out to find and help him, ending up in the strange, coastal town of Netherwell Bay.
There, she begins to witness terrifying and unexplainable things, and reports of ritualistic murders have the town panicked.
A sinister cult soon makes its presence known, and the dark history of Netherwell Bay is unveiled. Beth then finds herself in a race against time to stop a doorway to Hell from opening… permanently.
The Netherwell Horror is a Lovecraftian mystery that quickly descends into madness, sickening violence, and chaos. Fans of Silent Hill will love this nightmarish tale, but those of a squeamish disposition need not apply…
This was a perfect joining of cult and creature feature horror! Very Lovecraftian feel about the monsters too! Descriptions were full on gruesome and brilliantly done! I’m impressed with the ending too there was no saving the day and it all being perfect. Definitely for lovers of Lovecraft and well written horrors.

First book of Terry Pratchett's so-called Bromeliad trilogy (consisting of this, Diggers and Wings) which, I believe, was turned into a stop motion kids TV series in the early 90s.
This follows a race of tiny people known as 'Nomes' from another planet, who have crash landed on planet Earth thousands of years ago and have now all but forgotten their own past, with some living in the fields where they are preyed upon by wildlife and others in a large department store and refusing to believe there is such a thing as 'outside' ('did not Arnold Bros., est 1905, say "everything under one roof" ...')
This belief is put to the test when Masklin - one of the outside Nomes - arrives in the store leading a ragtag group of (mostly older) Nomes, just before said store is about to be demolished, and having to hatch a plan to rescue as many Nomes as he can and get back home safely, aided by 'The Thing' (what we would term a black box computer) that has been dormant for many centuries in (again, what we would term) power-saving mode.

I’m not quite sure how to review a collection of poetry, so I think I’ll start by saying that I really enjoyed it. The themes centre around feelings of duality, I thought: being deaf in a hearing world, being mixed race, the poet feeling that he doesn’t belong in Jamaica with his relatives telling him just that, a feeling that he doesn’t belong in the UK either.
It made me really think about what it is to have an invisible disability too. In ‘Miami Airport’, the official says:
“You don’t look deaf?
can you prove it?”
This reminded me of the times when I would have to pull up my sons trouser leg to show his splints when challenged about queuing for the disabled toilet (please don’t do this, it’s not cool) - something he rightly wont let me do anymore, I should add!
It was really good to read this on The Pigeonhole, too, and to have some discussion about the poems. I do hope they repeat this soon. Oh, and I bought the book as well, because I really like to read poetry again (and again!). I’m a bit of a ‘poetry dipper’ 😉

As a lover of goosebumps as a teen I was instantly drawn to this as soon as I saw the trailer for it. It has a very similar storyline to the episode say cheese and die but obviously as this is more for adults it's more scary. For those who have seen that episode of goosebumps my job is done, for those who haven't the movie is about a cursed camera, anyone who has their photo taken is killed by a supernatural creature. An antiques dealer named Bird is given an old camera by a friend, she starts taking photos of people with it but it isn't until the second person dies that she realises their deaths are because of the camera. It is then a race against time to find out the origins of the camera and how they can stop this supernatural being from killing her and all of her friends. Can she stop it in time? You'll have to watch to find.
A few jump scares in the movie but nothing too scary and lots of twists and turns, the ending I would have never guessed but it was very well done. Highly recommended.
