Awesome casting all around.

This is a different take on film that I don't think I've ever seen before. Taking a real life series of events and modifying it (very dramatically) to fit the narrative intended by the film makers. If ever there were a candidate for a job well done in that category, this would definitely be it.

Brad Pitt completely steals the spotlight (shared by Margot, of course) from Leo in this instant classic. Because the source material is SO heavily modified the viewer has genuinely no idea what to expect around every turn. Having that feeling while watching a movie unfold that you are familiar with the actual story it is based on was a bit of a surreal experience. But enjoyable nionetheless,

frank and honest account (0 more)
I have seen Lenny Henry in many things over the years and I don't know why but i always assumed he walked straight into television, boy was i wrong. Here is an in-depth look at life growing up in 70's England and the prejudices and racism that was so prevalent in our society (and still is unfortunately). From 3 minute stints at impressions to being Trevor Mcdonut on TISWAS. Its a wonderful read and a real eye opener on what society and the entertainment industry was like. Lenny paints a picture of a time when being 'black' was a joke in itself and his frank account of incidents is a revelation (sometimes a disturbing one). Definitely a great read :)

"Apart from increasing the level of actual synchronicity in my real life, reading Carl Jung's Synchronicity has been a pleasant stroll down subjectivity lane. In it, Jung subtly introduces the concept of a woven fabric of time and space that brings us together — past the laws of causality and the physical world — a mutual resonance between individuals beyond our understanding. As we each reflect the grandiose forces of the universe on a micro level, repelling and attracting events and other individuals, the solar system simultaneously plays the backdrop to our personal dramas on this planet, sweeping us up in greater cycles. All I gotta say is I'm a fan of attributing meaning to this process; I'll take Jung's ‘meaningful synchronicity’ over ‘pointless coincidence’ any day."

The protagonists of this story are Ayesha and Khalid, and the story is told from their perspectives. Ayesha is a modern Muslim girl, who believes that women have rights in this society, and her wishes are very different from what is expected of her. Khalid is a very conservative Muslim young man, who is proud of who he is. Both of these characters are absolute opposites, but even without realizing it, they share so much in common. I had a lot of joy while reading the story about their personal lives, and watching how they grew throughout this book. This novel has a huge variety of supporting characters, who play very important parts and are absolutely hilarious, just like in real life.

There were all sorts of things thrown into this movie that I wasn't expecting. Some over the top and some real life and tricky things. But all of them came together well and made a surprisingly enjoyable film.

No matter who you are, I'm sure there's something in there that you'll be able to identify with. A dog that won't listen to you. Trying to train your body to do something it really doesn't want to do. Going on a date with a moron.

I cried at it. Of course I did. But it was a lovely film. I don't know how it would do on second viewing now that I know what happens, but I wouldn't mind watching again to find out.

The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976)
The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976)
1976 | Action, Drama, Western
Outstanding western starring and directed by Clint Eastwood. The American civil war transforms ordinary farmer Josey Wales into a ruthless, deadly gunfighter - but when his side is defeated, is there any chance he can leave violence behind and find a new life?

Made just as the western was going out of fashion as a genre, there's a strikingly elegiac quality to this film - it includes all the requisite action and violence, but also considers wider issues about what it means for people to try and live together. Brings real heart and soul to the slightly cartoony character Eastwood played for Sergio Leone. In some ways this is a very serious film, but it also works superbly as a piece of entertainment.
