A wonderful array of short stories set in India
An intriguing network of short stories set in modern India with a backdrop of traditional culture. The stories have a vague link with one another, usually focusing on one particular character's narrative. And the nature of each story varies from magical realism to politics. While there were some stories I liked more than others, the animal cruelty of one specific tale was a little gratuitous to my liking. And while I know this happens in India it didn't seem to go anywhere. Other than that a well written cyclical novel.

A Kafkaesque bittersweet ghost story
For a first novel, Luke Smitherd has done himself justice bringing together classic existentialism, quite literally, with a touch of magical realism. An incredibly interesting concept discussing the in between phase of purgatory and reincarnation and how as humans, we cease to function without the basic notion of togetherness wrapped up in as easy to follow narrative.

While there were a few holes in terms of lack of character development for the the few people in the plot, the author performed his book well and it held together in the end.

You really have to think and follow in this story (0 more)
Scientifically researched
It may seems boring or it may seem interesting. You have to pay attention to detail in the book as you read, as it puts into place the scenario that is unfolding. The movie explains some of it but does give the book justice as it would have been time consuming. Read the book first. Then you can ride along the senseless movie ride and actually know wha t is going on that the other movie goers do not.

I had a very hard time putting this down. The style of the book immediately grabbed my attention and I loved the characters, they were so likeable and believable, the main characters anyway. I do think that the synopsis on the back cover is a little misleading; Portia doesn't play that much into the book. I really liked how Cath wasn't thin or obsessed with her weight, as Lucy was as well. I think that led to more realism. I so want Bookends, it sounds like the perfect bookstore! A very lovely and fun read, thanks so much for sharing! :)

Meh
Found this one on Netflix. It's very mediocre. The acting was weak and the effects were too. The story wasn't a bad premise but it was told poorly. The action sequences were not very good or realistic. I found myself saying many times over "yeah, right" and I'm not usually one that expects realism from movies. Problem is, if you're trying to make it realistic, then you have to stick to it throughout. It was basically a "bank heist good really bad" movie, not some fantasy style story. I would say that overall this one is NOT worth a watch.

A mindless but okay movie
I liked the casting and watched this because I do like some Nicholas Sparks on occasion. I'd read the book and it was mediocre at best. The film exceeded the book but still there is something significant missing in plot development. The main story in the house has some feeling but the background story as to why Gere's character is in the area lacked realism. It was still a decent movie to pass the time, but not desperately memorable.
