I haven't read anything by this author before but if this anything to go by, I won't be making that mistake again! Even though this is the second in the series, I don't think it mattered that much and certainly didn't detract from my enjoyment of this thrilling book.
Force of Hate has everything you would want in a gritty, police procedural ... excellent characters, perfect setting, brilliant writing, exciting, thrilling and gripping plot covering realistic and disturbing topics resulting in a tension filled read from the start.
Highly recommended and I very much look forward to reading the next in the series and I must thank Allison & Busby and NetGalley for enabling me to read and share my thoughts of Force of Hate.

As someone who works in education, I appreciate how realistic the depiction of children in a classroom is.
It doesn't take long before our first song starts, and although though Jamie isn't a particularly good vocalist, the song was quite catchy and stuck in my mind till the following one.
I didn't know if I would like this movie as a 40-year-old woman, but I really did. I shouted at the TV, cried, and even laughed at it. It can serve as motivation for anyone who struggles with being authentic. This movie is undoubtedly something you will enjoy if you enjoy both camp and musicals.

Charlie Cobra Reviews (1840 KP) rated The Lion King (2019) in Movies

King Mufasa (James Earl Jones) and Queen Sarabi rule over the animal kingdom with their pride of lions from Pride Rock, in the African Pride Lands. Things change with the birth of their son, Simba, the new Prince. Mufasa's younger brother, and former heir to the throne, Scar, covets the throne and plots to eliminate Mufasa and Simba, so he may become king. The battle for Pride Rock is filled with betrayal, tragedy and drama and circumstances are forever changed after the events of the stampede.
This movie was really good, but of course it was. The original Lion King was one of Disney's best animated films to date. There was a lot of build up to the release of this movie, with fans every anticipating when they could finally see this story on the big screen again. Jon Favreau did not disappoint, but there was a lot of negativity and bad review scores when it first released. I think the big problem was that in all the previews/trailers leading up to the movie coming out showed how realistic the animals looked and how they were able to recreate iconic scenes in stunning state of the art CGI, but they never showed the animals talking or singing. This for me made it difficult to get fully immersed in the film when the very realistic animals began talking and singing, but eventually it went away or I got used to it a couple minutes into the movie. Also they changed very little in this remake and it was almost literally a shot for shot or scene for scene recreation of the original Lion King, which I think bothered the critics. I personally liked little changes they made that I felt made the movie just a little bit better, like the dialogue between Mufasa's and Scar implying Mufasa's gave him the scar, Zimbabwe catching up with Nala for the journey back to Pride Rock, and Nala leading the female lions in the fight against the hyenas. I also thought it was cool how they made it more clear that one of the hyenas was the leader and it was the female and the scene where Scar makes the deal with them. Overall though I feel like they could have shown more emotion in the animals if they had chosen a style that was so detailed to look so realistic. I give this movie a 7/10. It is worth watching for nostalgia and to see it in theaters is a treat, especially when getting children or younger family members to see it for the first time, but the original is still the better film.

I received this book for a free and honest review. Upon receiving this book I was excited to read the story because of the hype it had received. While this book received a lot of hype and I was excited to read it. There are obvious flaws in the plot, but beyond that the story jumps around and at times it was difficult to follow. When it comes down to it, I did enjoy the story and learning about very serious issues that effect people who live in Kentucky.
This is a coming-of-age story that takes the readers to the Kentucky mountains. Within the story the readers are able to see how beautiful the nature is and how delicate it can be. Throughout the story the readers learn about real and serious issues such as coal mining, poverty, and homophobia. The issues are not laughed or portrayed in a joking manner but in a very real, and honest way and bring the issues to life.
There are three main characters; Kevin, Pops, and Buzzy. The characters have flaws, just as people, which makes the characters likable, realistic, and approachable. By having the characters realistic readers are able to identify with the character. Obviously there are more than just 3 characters in the story. These characters that support the main characters bring a complexity to the story. As a reader you will want to learn more about the supporting characters, which brings that mystery aspect to the story.
The ending of the story was done in a way that felt predictable but did give the story closure.
While I neither enjoyed nor disliked this story I believe it is a worthwhile read. Readers are able to learn some valuable lessons and about some serious issues that still effect people from Kentucky of today. So, for this reason I recommend this book.

I was told that Sarah Dessen's works were awesome. So I basically went into the frame of mind that it would be a good book when I actually started reading it.
I don't really hate saying this, but as a first time peep (read: I'm reading her works for the first time) on reading a work of Sarah Dessen's, I left with a pretty "eh..." view. I did try to keep the fact in mind that Sarah Dessen is a good writer, which was why I didn't go all <s>mini stomping off with a hmph</s> frowny faced at the wall.
I don't exactly hate the book - not really - but I found it very boring from page 1 to the end. I'm pretty surprised I didn't fall asleep. Yet. There was just something missing. While I don't really mind reading gushy romances (YA speaking), I'm not one who prefers reading a book that's pretty much completely - as in 90% or more - lack of action.
Dreamland is basically your typical realistic fiction in the terms of romance. It was also pretty predictable (but then... I tend to predict things near the bull's eye usually...). And every time a character in a book is getting suspicious of events, it would go down the drain a little more.
If it wasn't required reading, I probably would've ended up just setting it down, walk away, read another book, and then return it. But, if you're one who likes realistic fiction and romances rolled into one "bookrito," then you probably just got another recommendation. However, if you're one for romance and action rolled into one, then I don't exactly recommend it.... but feel free to read it if you want to try it out, as everyone's reading preference is different....
