Dean (6926 KP) rated Slumdog Millionaire (2008) in Movies

Not quite the sugar coated feel good film I was expecting. It's quite dramatic and gritty in places but I think that makes the harshness of the situations the characters find themselves in and what they go though in their life time more realistic. This makes the film better overall. Very well directed, a great story some great child actors and a fine soundtrack produce a film everyone will enjoy and be drawn into! Jai ho!!!

Once again, I have mixed feelings about a book. While this one was well written and the solution to the mystery not easily guessed, I felt the characters weren't particularly likeable. Unfortunately, that included the detectives. The ending also seemed a bit unresolved, which I know is realistic, but I prefer my fiction to be wrapped up a little tidier. Overall, I liked this book, but I'm not rushing out to pick up more of the author's work.
Sarah Betts (103 KP) rated Kristy's Great Idea (The Baby-Sitters Club, #1) in Books

The first BSC book is the story of the incredibly bossy Kristy Thomas who decides to start a club to help out parents who have no one to watch their kids. I loved these books and this one was a complete blast to read.
I was addicted to these books for years and while they're not very well-written or realistic, half the fun is knowing that these situations are completely absurd.
I've never been a huge Kristy fan.

What a classic. Rewatched this movie a couple of days ago and I remembered how much I really liked this movie. The team did such a good job with this film and making sure that they made it look very realistic. The CGI in this film is so good. I was impressed with how well this movie holds up 12 years later. RDJ and Jon Favreau did a brilliant job creating this movie and launching such an impressive franchise.

A Carpenter Masterpiece
With an excellent eerie score, chilling suspenseful tone, realistic grounded acting, unforgettable quotable dialog, and genius inventive camera work. John Carpenter's classic slasher about a boogeyman possessed escaped inmate stalking babysitters on All Hallows Eve has been a huge inspiration for slasher films in generally. Not mention it spawned 7 sequels, a remake with a sequel, and a reboot. But after all these years John Carpenter's original Halloween still stands tall above the rest. A masterpiece!
