Idris Elba as Roland (1 more)
McConaughey as Walter
The movie was engrossing, at no point did I get that 'how long have I been here?' feeling.
Idris Elba was awesome, as expected. The sets, even when otherworldly, seemed very realistic and not out of place.
The story had some really great and emotional moments.
The movie was self-contained and could be stand-alone, but I hope it won't be. There was an after credits sound bite that definitely leads me to think there will be more.

A graphic novel alternative WWII history thriller, this has some disturbing elements which may not be for every reader, but do add to the realistic element that these things would have happened. This first part of the story takes its reader on a grand journey which leaves the reader wanting to continue in the next part to find out what will happen to its characters. I can easily see this as a blaxploitation-style film, the spies, hitmen and nazi give you a real idea of what to expect.

I loved this book! Fast, fun, and spirited (in more ways than one!), it was a great, interesting, and unique read with a wonderful heroine. I liked that it deals with both Celtic and American Indian ways, which is really different in the urban fantasy scene. Joanne was very realistic, the plot fascinating, and her sidekick, Gary, was a nice change of pace. While everyone won't like this, I highly recommend reading it anyway. I can't wait to get to get to the sequels, this is definitely one of my favorite new urban fantasy series!

A short and breezy book about a girl's coming to terms with the death of a mother she never knew and her journey to discover who her mother was. The author has a light touch so while it never gets too maudlin, it nevertheless feels (mostly) realistic. There are many humorous moments along the way, as well as more and more of Ellie's friends and teachers pop up to help her. This was a fast, easy and fun little book that I would recommend for tweens and younger teens.

This book is incredibly thick and took a long time to read; and was worth every second. This incredible story, steeped in fact, is engaging, exhilarating and heart wrenching. The characters are defined, realistic and believable, as are the circumstances of their lives and situations. To be able to immerse ourselves in what happens to these kids in countries where terrorist groups abound and are as well known as the locals is amazing and important. This “true story”, which reads like a novel, is timely, smart and a must read!

CBorden (67 KP) rated The Hunter’s Prayer (2017) in Movies
Feb 6, 2018
Sam Worthington pushes himself as an assassin hired to kill a teenage girl as he struggles to face his own demons - addiction, his past as a soldier, and his lack of relationship with his own teenage daughter. The movie is action from start to finish with not a lot of great suspense or unexpected plot twists. However, for an action flick, its rather mild presentation (minimal swearing, not overly graphic, no unnecessary sexual content) plus the realistic potrayal of the emotions the hunter and the hunted must work through, this is an enjoyable movie!

This is a sweet story that also deals with some difficult issues. The main characters were developed and their stories plausible. The fact that both had to deal with bullying from the same family might seem unbelievable to some readers but if you grew up as the poor kid in a small town it is very realistic. I was a bit surprised by the ages of the main characters because just reading the description made it seem they were adults. That said I will read more by Tudor and this is a quick, enjoyable read.
