The time is now. Humanity has deciphered an alien message that basically says, "we're dead, bad things are coming for you, take our technology and get the hell out." Of course, the message arrived in 1945, so we're a little behind. Faster Than Light marries the hard science fiction of The Martian, 2010, and Gravity with the idealism of the original Star Trek. I love it. It's a very grounded series, with realistic characters doing realistic things.

The story comes in small 2 or 3 issues arcs, so the adventure of the week is easily digestible, but somehow it still feels choppy. Like in one instance an entire mission wasn't there, and we just got the end of it, but it didn't link up with anything else. Theres a nifty gimmick, where a free downloadable app can be used in conjunction with the comic. Scan pages and get access to the alien encyclopedia, Captains logs, a translation matrix for the alien dialogue, etc. (This may be the cause of the stories choppiness, as there may simply be pieces I'm missing out on.)

Unfortunately, some of the art isn't as up to par as the story telling, which can make it difficult to tell crew members apart, which causes the story to suffer. But overall this is definitely a title to keep an eye on, looking forward to Volume 2...

Send in the Clowns
I've been looking forward to this since seeing the Trailers a while ago. Also the fact that it appears to be a dark, gritty more realistic origin story. Looking and feeling more like a film set in our society, rather than Gotham city. There are enough hints and elements to the film to give it the DC universe setting. It was nice to see these touches in the film.
This film won't be for everyone. It is a slow burner, character driven piece with little action to speak of. It does showcase Joaquin Phoenix talents though in a performance that must make him the favourite for the Best Actor Oscar. It's a dark film, showing his descent into madness, not coping with his mental illness with a bleak look at his past as well. Set against a backdrop of civil unrest in the city. There are obvious comparisons with @Taxi Driver (1976) which had similar themes. It's also quite violent in places but I think compared to many other films it's no worse than you would expect.
Overall I think this could be a modern classic and definitely deserves high praise for the cinematography, which is very artistically shot and the acting. It's Phoenix's portrayal of Joker that this film will be remembered for.

The Lion King is Bad But Not Awful
It wasn't as bad as some people are saying but still a disappointing experience.

If you're looking for a more realistic version of the original then you'll probably like it.

If you're looking for a movie that adds something of value to this story then you'll probably be disappointed. It's the same story and half of the dialogue is verbatim to the original.

The strongest parts of the movie were the visuals and the scenes with Timon and Pumbaa. At the same time, however, the visuals actually hurt the film because everything looked bleak and boring. The animated film had vibrant colors and the characters were full of emotion. Disney wanted this remake to be realistic, which they accomplished but it prevents the film from giving the audience the same emotional attachment as the original.

The voice acting for most of the characters wasn't good. This stands out because a lot of the dialogue was repeated from the animation so the whole time I kept thinking about how they handled things so much better in the original.

The remake isn't an insult to the original but its existence seems pointless. It's a very well made film but suffers from a lack of originality.
