A stark, realistic look at Alzheimer's
Written as a journal: a year in the life of the main female character. She returns home for a year to help her mother look after her father who has Alzheimer's. He is quite far advanced, but at the beginning he is lucid. As the book progresses, so does his Alzheimer's. It's not just about a child caring for their parent: the main character has split up with her boyfriend and she feels as though she has made a mess of her life. This is her chance to set her life to rights.
This doesn't sugar coat any of the story, and I enjoyed it.

H20 is a different type of post apocolyptic read. First off the killer is bacteria in water, not really something you can avoid. Secondly the main character, Ruby, is not a prepper, survival type but a regular self centered teen. She only survives long enough to figure things out becuase of the people around her but that makes her more realistic. How many teens do you know are preppers or care about anything but their cell phones? As a long time middle school teacher I can tell you not many.
It was a steady paced quick read. I plan on reading the next in the series. It is in my "pile".

Well where to begin?
At first I thought this would be a generic rewrite of Beauty and the Beast- but, while it holds hints of the fairytale, it is completely it's own thing.
The characters seem extremely realistic to me, they have depth and interesting backstories. The descriptions of the areas within the story are so well written that I find myself picturing them easily and whisking I could be there.
I love the surprising twists and turns that the plot takes it isn't predictable and that makes me want to read more.
Overall I adore this book.

For second book in the series this one was pretty darn good. I really like the evolution of the characters and the situations that they were put through. The darkness of the story completely surpassed that of the first. I like all the literary illusions that are found throughout the novel in series. Megan Shepherd did a great job crafting the story in a way that made it believable on the page. I like the little details that she has throughout the story that make it so much more realistic in the world it is setting. If you like horror novels you should definitely start reading this series

This book was a little difficult to read for a few reasons. It should come with a trigger warning since it deals with domestic abuse in a realistic manner. That said it was still a well written book. One of the things that made it hard to read was a that the voice of the story is 4 yr old Danny. Everything is told from his point of view and in the way his brain sees it. To me it also seemed Danny was on the autism spectrum so that added a different twist. It is a hard hitting book but definately worth a read.

Sentimental action
I really enjoyed the first equalizer film, which was in the typical action film mould. I guessed this would be more of the same. The storyline is a bit different this time and doesn't follow on directly from the first. This feels more personal and sentimental this time round. There is just as much dialogue as there is action. It makes the film a bit more realistic, but at times the pacing is off. It has a pretty good finale but maybe could have done with a bit more action overall. Still an enjoyable film, just a bit different from most action films.
Gisell Middleton (189 KP) rated She Was The Quiet One in Books

This novel was gripping from the start! I love the way it captivated the reader without giving away one of the major plot points until 3/4 of the way in. The characters were realistic and believable, made all the more impressive because most are teenagers. The situations they find themselves in and issues they encounter were relatable in the sense that it was entirely probable that would be the way they think, act, speak and behave. The only downside is that, at times, the dialogue was a bit repetitive. All in all, a real page-turner.

This novel was many times funny, though it was not meant to be. The self-absorption and narcissistic nature of most, if not all, the characters make this a sort of parody of the situation. The character development and the clear agenda each one has feels very color-by-numbers and, even though they are one-dimensional, they are very realistic and relatable. The concept is novel although the plot is a bit discombobulated. I enjoyed the thoughts and feelings this book evoked in me perhaps more than the book itself. The exploration into the human condition and how the relationships begin to break down was fascinating.

Went in with doubts, but amazed!
Avatar: The Last Airbender is without a doubt one of the finest shows I've ever seen. As I said, I went in with doubts as it is a children's show, but this is enjoyable for the whole family!
The show contains (in my opinion anyway) some of the finest storytelling in television history, with the story drawing inspiration from Chinese, Japanese, Inuit and Tibetan culture.
The characters are superb, with realistic character development, viewers find themselves getting more and more connected to them as the show goes on.
A beautifully made series and thoroughly enjoyable!
