I haven't read anything by Linwood Barclay for some years and I really don't know why but I had a word with myself and got stuck into this with relish.

What we have here is an exciting thriller that had me hooked. The pace is unrelenting, the characters are just excellent ... even the horrid ones ... and the story is captivating. There are a number of threads to the story and to go into them all would ruin it so I will say nothing apart from you needing to keep your wits about you, but in a good way.

There is tension, twists and nail-biting moments and, yes, you have to suspend reality at times but if you can't do that in fiction, when can you?

All in all, a really enjoyable read and my thanks go to HQ (an imprint of HarperCollins UK) and NetGalley for my copy in return for an honest, unbiased and unedited review.

I really enjoyed this multi-generational family novel, full of badly behaved grans, teenaged girls and dads. In fact, not many of the characters are behaving well in Good Eggs. But that’s what makes it so much fun. There are a lot of laugh out loud moments in this - so beware of where you’re reading it!
Some of the exploits seem a little far fetched, but the comedy value more than makes up for that, and this is a great book to escape from reality with. Grandma Millie would be enough entertainment on her own.she’s a kleptomaniac who drives a very much abused Renault, who says what she thinks and doesn’t worry about the consequences.
I don’t want to give too much away, but I really did enjoy this - it’s great, crazy and full of heart.
Many thanks to The Pigeonhole for serialising this, and Rebecca Hardiman for joining in with the read!

The third in my series of films you would recommend to a visiting alien to explain humanity is… the harrowing yet utterly brilliant Incendies (2010), directed by Denis Villeneuve, from the play by Wajdi Mouawad.

Utilising a French and Arabic speaking cast you have probably never seen before, this brutal drama feels as close to reality as you would ever want a story of this nature to be. Yet, of course because it is a Denis Villeneuve film (he also made Blade Runner 2049, Enemy, Prisoners, Arrival, Sicario etc, if you are not familiar with him) it is drenched in style and visual embellishment that makes it a work of art transcending a documentary feel. Naturalism is evident in the acting, but so is an awareness of storytelling. It also boasts one of the most jaw dropping endings I have ever seen. Once experienced, never forgotten. Rated the 111th best film of all time on IMDb currently, and my Decinemal score agrees with that.
