Not always engaging, but it does provide material and analysis which is helpful for combating the Jesus of the Jesus Seminar and similar radical contemporary scholars, as well as non-scholars like Dan Brown. As such, I recommend owning it for at least the reference materials.

"I’m always inspired by Michael's marriage of incredible lyrics and unbelievable production. When I want to make something timeless I’ll always reference Michael Jackson. I think one of the best songs in the whole world is 'Billie Jean.' I can go on and on about MJ."

"This movie makes me think of my French producer, Claire. We watched it as reference for a script we were working on together. It’s a brutal film to be sure, but I only have warm associations attached to it now: days of wine, writing, and more wine."

OK Computer by Radiohead
1997 | Alternative, Rock
OK Computer remains without an obvious frame of musical reference but, more crucially, the agitation and malaise that permeate every note of it are - at twenty years’ distance - frightening in their augury.

Apparently the first in a new series, and (for once) the comparison on the back of the book - which reads something like "in the tradition of Patrick O'Brian and Bernard Cornwell" - is actually pretty accurate!

Having said that, I would've replaced O'Brian reference with CS Forester: some of the events contained in the book have more than a passing resemblance to some of those in the Hornblower novels! The Cornwell reference, though, is pretty much spot on: an outsider officer (naval, in this case) who must contend with both his own immediate superiors as well as the enemy ... sound familiar at all?

Still, I'll be keeping an eye out for the sequel!

I went through this book in about three days. It is a super cute, clean (with reference to sex, but nothing raunchy), and cat-centric romance. The writing is simple and fun, and the romance isn't forced. Both main characters have pets, including the best feline wingman in (fictional) existence. If you need a quick, fun read, this is a great choice.

I was really dubious about this film, being a massive fan of the Robin Williams film, but it did impress me. I really liked this twist on how the game alters for the generation. I do wonder how they would continue it if they felt the need to do another though. I'm also curious how many younger people got the Alan Parish reference.
