The women who went to Europe in 1917 as signal corps officers with the US Army, played an enormous part in helping bring the “Great War” to its conclusion. However, until 1979, they were literally the unsung heroes of WWI, because the army refused to recognize them as proper soldiers. This injustice brought author Aimie K. Runyan to write this gripping historical fiction novel, that highlights these women and their contributions. You can read my #bookreview of “Girls on the Line” on my blog now.

Chronologically the second of [a:C.S. Forester|932179|C.S. Forester|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1218219226p2/932179.jpg]'s Hornblower series, this is actually the seventh by Publication date, and is a marked contrast to most of the other Hornblower novels in that, while Horatio Hornblower is indeed the main character this is not told from his point of view, but rather from that of Lieutenant William Bush, who's date of commission makes him senior to Hornblower (who is, in fact, the junior lieutenant on board the HMS Renown).

Over the course of the novel, Bush sees how Hornblower becomes integral to dealing with an insane captain, as well as to the Renowns mission to the Spanish held possession of Santa Domingo (and the capture of one of the forts there) and finally back to England to see how the fact that peace has 'broken out' has dealt with Hornblower: the latter part showing him down on his luck, with his commission to post rank refused due to this peace, and with the Admiralty requiring him to pay back the excess pay he had withdrawn over the period between his (now refused) commission and his return home.

Like all of the Hornblower books, well worth a read!

"What turns the frog into a prince? If you say the princess’s kiss you have been misinformed. Read what the story says: “She picked him up and she threw him against the wall as hard as she could, ‘Now will you be satisfied you nasty frog?’ As he fell to the ground he was no longer a frog but a prince with kind and beautiful eyes.” “It makes no sense!” complained Maurice Sendak. He refused to believe it. I had the happiness of translating the stories in The Juniper Tree and Other Tales for Grimm for Sendak’s illustrations."

A Hidden Life (2019)
2019 | Biography, Drama
Seeing this film is something you have to prepare for, it clocks in at just under 3 hours. You also have to be aware that it's a Malick film, and the dude does whatever he wants.
First, Austria is beautiful, the cinematography, scenery, everything, was gorgeous. I think that there were more scenes of nature, than the actors themselves. It's a long, rollicking journey through the simple story of a man who refused to swear an oath to Hitler in 1943.
Franz's journey was deeply religious and philosophical.
I really enjoyed the entire film, and it was worth almost 3 hours of my life, simply because of the beauty of it. It won't be everyone's thing.

"On my eighth birthday my mother gave me a hardcover copy of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. The inscription read: ‘Here is the brother you said you wanted.’ I was having trouble in school—particularly reading—and a psychologist had recently tested me and informed my mother and the school that I was, in the parlance of the day, ‘retarded.’ My mother steadfastly refused to accept this, saying, ‘You just haven’t found anything you care enough about to read.’ It turned out I was dyslexic and perhaps mildly autistic. It took me months, and when I was done, I could read, and I had indeed been given a brother—two, in fact, and I have visited with them every year since my eighth birthday."

Amazingly addicted!
when I saw this come onto Netflix a long way back, I judged it hard refused to watch it because I thought it was some crappy zombie movies that I won’t like.

Then a friend insisted that I give it a try told me that the zombie solves crimes, so I thought to my self that’s the kind of thing I’m into

Well, now I’m lost because Iv seen all 4 season! Within a few days and now triddling my thumbs for season 5

It’s so good! I was addicted after 5 minuets Serves me right for judging before trying.

I Love the characters, I love the humour that they put into this, every episode there is something to laugh at.

"The most thoroughly satisfying and perhaps only perfect film ever made. I forget which director said they should close all the film schools and just show the students The Third Man thirty times. It bears at least a dozen reseeings, with something new and fine discovered each time. And to think that Benzedrine-riddled David O. Selznick tried to transform the fabulous final moments into a happy ending; but Carol Reed refused, standing up for all of us. This year I found and stood in the dark Vienna doorway where Orson Welles stood when the kitty licked his shoe . . . and had my picture taken. I can find but one tiny glitch: Harry Lime’s address. It’s spoken by Joseph Cotten as “fünfzehn Josefsplatz,” but, moments later, the building with the caryatids prominently bears the number fünf. Okay, so no movie’s perfect."

I finally sat down to read this book and I freaking loved it so much that I had to read it all in a day because I simply refused to put it down.

A beautifully written story line that quickly found me endearing myself to America as she is someone people could actually look up to.

America does not want to sign up for the selection but her love interest Aspen asks her to do it so that later on in life there are no I wonder ifs and so she does it thinking that she won't be selected. However, she does and things quickly begin to change for her.

This emotionally charged read is fast paced, full of strong characters and the world building was enchanting. A story full of love, heartache, revelations and perseverance. Can't wait for the next book to arrive in the mail!
