NO STARS! This book was horrible. I really liked the reincarnation idea, but it was executed horribly. The Wind Dancer is so much better. I expected more from Eve & Co.

I'll be honest and say that it's the relationship between the five of them that he me keeping reading this series because the hell thing has kinda totally gone over my head in this. I'm not too interested in that part and am just enjoying their bonding (once again). Reincarnation and all that...

Bit of a cliffy ending. Does that mean she is who he wanted her to be? Does that mean I have to go buy book 2 right away to find out?
Ugh!
I was really enjoying this until that last 5-10% when Cyrus finally admitted what he wanted from her. I'm not a fan of reincarnation to be honest but if it means that Cyrus and Logan will get together then fine, I'll get over it.

Ross (3284 KP) rated Here, My Dear by Marvin Gaye in Music

Rolling Stone's 456th greatest album of all time (493rd in the 2020 list)
A nice but unusual collection of soul songs by Marvin Gaye. Anna's Song is a great typical soul song, but the likes of Funky Space Reincarnation are as odd as the name suggests. I think to get the most out of this album you need to ingest similar things to what Gaye must have done in writing and recording it! No classics but good listening.

Great idea but needs more of a central plot
This story is fairly similar to other books like The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August, however it has its own unique spin on reincarnation/Groundhog day type experiences.
This is a very intriguing story about how the choices you may in life affect everything, but with Ursula being able to relive her life over and over again, constantly making different choices to change how her life plays out. For me it was interesting to pick up on some of the smaller details that change through each reincarnation. Ursula is a well written and in-depth character, although the same cant always be said for the rest of her family and other minor characters. My only problem with this is that other than Ursula reliving her life repeatedly, there's no central plot or grounding. Its just the same life over and over again with slightly different circumstances. There's nothing else to hold it all together and it can become a little repetitive (unsurprisingly).

Continuity of cast
Not as good as the first one, but still better than the next....
Introduction of concepts and elements that weren't present in the first - reincarnation, Rick's tattoo and it's significance, etc (1 more)
The Scorpion King's introduction looks like a PS2 cutscene.
A solid sequel
This is a solid sequel, even if it falls short of the mark set by it's predecessor. The entire (surviving) cast returns, which I appreciate in a franchise, and the story mostly delivers. There are a few frustrating elements, such as all of a sudden adding concepts such as reincarnation (especially given that the concurring reveal would have been relevant to the story of the first film) or Rick's tattoo that he's had since his childhood, except that he didn't have it in the first movie. Where this film really falls short, though, is a couple bad animation moments. Mostly the film is a lot like the first in terms of effects - decent animation for 2002, if occasionally dated, but a couple of sequences are jarringly bad, especially the Rock's entrance as the Scorpion King. Is it enough to keep me from watching? No. But I still cringe at that point every time.

A Kafkaesque bittersweet ghost story
For a first novel, Luke Smitherd has done himself justice bringing together classic existentialism, quite literally, with a touch of magical realism. An incredibly interesting concept discussing the in between phase of purgatory and reincarnation and how as humans, we cease to function without the basic notion of togetherness wrapped up in as easy to follow narrative.
While there were a few holes in terms of lack of character development for the the few people in the plot, the author performed his book well and it held together in the end.

Utterly terrible, boring, and cliche. The plot involves the Salem Witch Trials, reincarnation, and zombies, which I'm not saying can't work, it just didn't with this one. Not one thing or person in this book bore any resemblance to those in the series, other than using the same names, and the dialogue was beyond awkward. I'm not even sure the author ever saw the show. Everything was so cardboard. No, I'm wrong, it was far worse than that, more like cardboard that had been out in a torrential downpour. For a week. Gross, soggy, mushy cardboard. Filled with rat turds. Not recommended at all.
