This Motherless Land is a modern day retelling based loosely on Mansfield Park. Instead of the differences between a poor working class girl and a rich upperclass family, TML shows the differences between family split between Lagos and Somerset.

Funke is by no means from a poor family in Lagos, in fact quite the opposite. Instead of ‘just’ class (as in Mansfield Park), this novel shows the attitudes and racism towards Funke, and the class they perceive her to be based on that racism, when she is sent to live with her grandparents in England. Instead of the love and support she needs and deserves, her family are detached and racist. Her cousin Liv is the only one who makes an effort, and they form a special relationship as children. But even this relationship isn’t safe, and after a misunderstanding, Funke faces more tragedy.

I loved this book. Told over three decades, I really got to know the characters (although I could have really done without ever knowing Funke’s English aunt). There are emotional highs and lows for Funke and her family. Grief and loss are central themes. I loved the cultural contrasts between Nigeria and England and the way they were described - these countries are worlds apart.

I was RAGING at some parts of this book - such was the frankly excellent writing. I was all in!!

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review when I signed up to host the book tour. I made no guarantee of a favorable review.

Good book but was extremely slow at the beginning and though I wanted to put it down and stop reading it I continued and found that it did start to become interesting. Tragedy hits Bella and her family which was extremely sad but I did enjoy the relationship between Bella and Jeremiah and some parts of the story dropped my jaw wide open. It is a good read, I just wish it hadn't dragged on during certain parts.

Conjured begins where the first book left us; mourning the loss of a character. In this book we are afforded the opportunity to continue to see the deepening relationship of Alexandria and Peter. Alexandria's powers truly begin to develop and we are knocked off of our feet by startling revelations and developments along the way.

The cliff hanging ending of book two took my breathe away and I cannot wait to read the next book. Chelsea will quickly become a new favorite author for those looking for an amazing and spellbinding writer. This is a must read book for both young and old alike.

3.75/ 5 Warning! Trigger book!.

I DNF'd this book and no not because it was at all bad. It hit many spots that were still sensitive to me and it was just the intensity of it that made me put it down. The only reason this didn't get a full four stars was because i didn't feel as thought the main characters had much of a beginning at all, He had barley said anything to her and then they were making out. I kind of wished they went a little more into the relationship as a whole, not only explained bits and pieces through thought. But still a very intense book.

Complex, intricate, the relations of three people living in isolation
A beautifully complex and deep novel portraying a young Jewish man living in isolation with a widow and her father-in-law. The relationship between the three characters is intriguing, using dialogue to reveal the political turmoil at the founding of Israel as a state. At the same time, understanding how Jews are represented in Christianity. The house the story takes place in is almost an analogy of the separation of the Jewish community as a whole in this plot, with no friends but only suspicion of the outside and from the outside. An important novel for current times

Great Rom/Com
As Rom-coms go this is one of the better ones of the last few years. Kinda mixing @Meet the Parents (2000) with @The Devil Wears Prada (2006) Most reviews seem split on the two leads, personally I think they do have a good chemistry in this. Along with a great setting, a strong cast including the funny Betty White (Goldengirls) make this a pleasing film. It is predictable, aren't they all? It does have some good laughs along the way as the love-hate-love relationship unfolds. It's an enjoyable feel good comedy with two good leads.

All shock no substance for me
I have a very love-hate relationship with AHS I continue to watch every season but I never actually enjoy it, I feel for the most part they all go for as much shock as they can but no real story because they try and pull everything into ten different directions without actually really getting into anything.

Season 1 for me was the one that did this the most there were so many stories going on and I never really cared about any of them, I kind of just kept watching to see what crazy crap was going to happen next.

Exceptionally interesting, shockingly horrific and really good watch
Excellent script and performances which are done with great respect. The film doesn't linger on the horrors of the actions of Bundy but rather concentrates on the working of him and his relationship with the family that he connects himself with. This combining with the slow burning crime running parallel lifts it from being a generic retelling of the Bundy story. It's great that it doesn't use gore to tell the story which makes the court scenes more horrific in the reveal of the murders.
An all round classy, respectful thriller.

Once again Bloodhound Books has introduced me to yet another fabulous author and series! Always a fan of police/detective stories I was sucked right in with great characters and curious circumstances. Jack Lambert is an interesting yet loveable character, tough yet a good guy with a soft side. Having an ex-wife, child and girlfriend, all of whom he lost because he was honest with about his sexuality, yet he tries to maintain a good relationship. Simply the fact that we have a gay tough a$$ detective was enough to draw me in! Recommended and can't wait for more books in this series!
