What a cracking start to what promises to be an intense series!
    

    The Killer in Me is easy to get in to and hard to put down. I put everything on hold to keep reading and I don't regret it. There's mystery, murder and surprises, which always gets my vote, not to mention corruption and long standing fueds. I'd love to say I guessed everything straight away but I didn't, I had suspicions though (changed my mind a few times too!)

It's good to see some strong female characters. Sheriff Elizabeth Benoit and Deputy Lila Dayne form a good relationship and both show strength when needed.
    This could possibly be read as a standalone but there are unanswered questions for Lila.

I'd class this as an adult read, one to have a cozy evening in with.

The film does refer, albeit in a shallow way, to Tarkovsky and this is perhaps its greatest asset. There are exaggerations. There is not the same poetry as in the Russian master's films, but the drama that unfolds at the same time as we have a science fiction in the background can't help but remember Stalker. The two actors are well in the roles, I think it was necessary to explore a little better Rhoda's relationship with her family. Some resolutions at the end were rushed and kind of gibberish, but the film is far from the American production standard, that in itself makes it much better than most of the garbage that Hollywood throws at the crowd. The final balance is much more positive than negative, and the ending makes you think, it's not something chewy, I like endings like that.

Jess arrives at university in East Anglia, chosen purely because she wants to be taught by a specific lecturer - the charismatic Lorna. She makes friends with another girl, Georgie, in her halls of residence, who is very Upper Class and more interested in having fun than going to lectures.

When they meet Alec, a South African journalist on sabbatical at the University, Georgie has the confidence to start a relationship with him, whilst the shy Jess misses out.

This is a story that meanders along, occasionally revealing a secret (some of which are pretty major!). I empathised with both Jess and Georgie, two quite vulnerable, inexperienced young adults, who were taken in and manipulated by both Lorna and Alec.

This is a compelling read though, and the grey, windy atmosphere, the bleakness, all adds to the feel of this novel.

This was sweet, loving the Comic-Con fun mixed in too pretty easy going read. Not much more I can really say.
