Tries hard but doesnt deliver
I was a huge Sabrina fan, HUGE! I was so excited for this remake but it just doesnt do it for me. I didnt expect it to be so dark or for her aunts to be soooooo irritating! And whats with the random zombie cousin guy? I managed a couple if episodes and had to give up. Gutted ?

Beautiful mythological tale of perseus saving a princess through battling many a trial.
The effects although great for their time have suffered greatly although the Harryhausen style will always command respect from those in the know.
It's a great fantasy movie where you can forget your issues and bathe in one of the classics that hands down beats the hell out of the CGI heavy remake. One for kids and adults that never really gets old.

A Carpenter Masterpiece
With an excellent eerie score, chilling suspenseful tone, realistic grounded acting, unforgettable quotable dialog, and genius inventive camera work. John Carpenter's classic slasher about a boogeyman possessed escaped inmate stalking babysitters on All Hallows Eve has been a huge inspiration for slasher films in generally. Not mention it spawned 7 sequels, a remake with a sequel, and a reboot. But after all these years John Carpenter's original Halloween still stands tall above the rest. A masterpiece!

"Going a little more lighthearted, number three is the original Jumanji, which is so cheesy because I was in the remake, but that was always one of my favorite films of all time. It’s just pure nostalgia. I think I’m right in that age bracket where it’s like a classic to anyone who’s around my age, and anyone who’s outside of that, it doesn’t seem like it’s so much of a classic to them. Loved it."

"Speaking of Un chien andalou, Buñuel has one of the most perfect careers in cinema, and was able to harness lunacy and despair with wit and economy. There are many Buñuel titles in the Criterion Collection, but I chose Belle de jour because it remains so beguiling. I was offered the chance to remake it about twenty years ago, but it seemed like such a futile exercise. Has anyone been more perfectly cast than Deneuve in this film?"

The direction is superb
Dialog is gritty and great.
A great 2 sided coin spinning on the edge of a 3rd story window...
This shouldn't be the first oscar Scorsese wins, but tragedies happen every day I guess... That said this is deserving of the honor, more so than most oscar winners. The Cat and Rat runaround is interesting to watch unfold. plus lines like "I'm the guy who does his job, you must be the other guy." make this a great watch.

A little bit of trivia:Martin Scorsese did not realize this was a remake of a Hong Kong movie until after he had agreed to direct it. It's the only remake of a foreign film to win an Academy Award for Best Picture. Martin Scorsese said that he was surprised the film had won, because the film is such a tough, nasty, and violent film, he never thought about the idea of awards while he was filming it.

Here's some great alternate movie posters to enjoy as well.
