HER MOUNTAIN CHRISTMAS is the fourth book in the Honey Ridge series and, as you may have figured out, takes place at Christmastime.
Ella comes from money, but that has a price tag. When she finds out her parents have basically sold her to a man she can't stand, she leaves the party and leaves her apartment. Unfortunately, as happens when you're running away, she doesn't check the weather forecast and ends up driving in a blizzard. Along comes Jack to the rescue, who warms her up in more ways than one!
This is another cracker of a book from Alyson Archer. It is Christmassy with plenty of snow, but steam aplenty indoors. I loved how Ella knew what she wanted and made no bones about it, whereas Jack was more than happy to give his girl what she wanted, even when she didn't know what that was.
Although Ms Archer writes one helluva steamy scene, my favourite was when Ella stood up to her parents, with Jack by her side. Take that, you snotty pair!!!
Absolutely fantastic and HIGHLY RECOMMENDED by me!

The Surf House is an entertaining, fast moving, atmospheric thriller, and really doesn’t do many favours for the Moroccan tourist board. Bea is attacked in an alleyway after she decides to leave her modelling set in Marrakesh, and when a woman comes to her rescue, the unthinkable happens.
Bea is invited to The Surf House to hide out and gather her thoughts, and it seems idyllic. The descriptions of the sea, surfers and the beach almost made me want to learn how to surf somewhere hot (almost). But at the same time, it’s clear that there’s something else going on. Something rotten. When Bea finds out that a young woman went missing a year ago, she starts to notice more things that don’t seem right.
There are so many twists, turns and dead ends that kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. I did find myself wanting to shout at her to just leave - I was so frustrated! She is pretty naive. But this is so well written and evocative of the setting and Bea’s feelings when she feels trapped and scared (and she feels those things a lot!), that I can forgive her naivety!

One of the most fun to play, shame about the story.
For starters, a lot of thing change in this game. The fighting style takes a little bit of getting used to if you play it straight after Syndicate. It quickly gets easier though, so don't panic!
As for the weapons, the choice of weapons is huge compared to previous games. Available on this game, and regularly picked up, you have:
- Regular swords.
- Curved swords.
- Spears.
- Sceptres.
- Battle axes.
- Giant hammers.
- Dual Wield swords.
- Bows (with flaming arrows, controllable arrows, poison arrows etc.
- And of course the classic sleep darts and smoke bombs which kill instantly when you get powerful enough (as this game you level up!)
In this game, you start with a basic camel as well, which you can keep, but collect others as well, including faster, rarer camels, as well as horses and chariots (which honestly are quite infuriating in tighter areas like towns and villages).
Climbing is also greatly improved, as you are less limited. You can climb any realistically climbable surface including any almost any cliff faces, buildings etc.
As seen in Syndicate, for better or worse there is levelling up and a skill tree. Leveling up isn't too bad, but to complete the skill tree it took me until about level 53 (two levels below max), and every other point giving activity. So the tree is a bit excessive, but has some pretty fun abilities, such as animal taming (lions, crocodiles etc.).
Now with the negatives. Unfortunately I have to start with the main story, which felt incredibly short and unimaginative. The whole story is a revenge story.
Though there are more main assassinations (possibly 13?), most if these are condense into one or two slightly longer than usual missions. So it does shorten the game significantly. S
This is made up for by the seemingly unending side missions. These side missions can be interesting, but for the most part they aren't. Each mission is either a rescue mission, an escort mission, an assassination mission, or a bit of all three. Mostly they are rescue and escort missions.
As for the DLC, I would probably not bother. "The Hidden Ones", which I have just completed, is easily forgettable, to the point I already can't remember what the point of it was. And "The Curse of the Pharaohs", which I have no progressed far in, is already showing desperation and dipping into the supernatural again, including various egyptian legends, which honestly aren't that interesting.
Where the previous games have focused a lot on history, this one touches on well-known egyptian history, but mainly focuses on it's own disappointing story.

The game is great - a clever little variation on standard Mario games whereby Mario automatically runs along and all you have to do is jump (should really have called it Super Mario Jump), cutting down on the complexity of controls.
You can play the first round of levels (I think 6 levels) but to play after that you have to pay £9.99. While I know apps are not developed without profit in mind, this is the first time I have seen a game of this profile have this. I don't mind apps where you can buy extra lives or power-ups but to ask people to pay for the game which was supposed to be free is a bit of a cheek.
There are other game modes - one where you race through 10 very short levels to progress through levels to rescue Peach, and one where you play against other players, looking to collect the most coins, but these both get old quick.
After finding out how little of the game I could play, and getting bored of the free content, I deleted the game. The lure of collecting things to build a little town wasn't enough for me.
But it was fun while it lasted.

I love Stephanie Laurens' book, especially the Cynster series. This latest offering is part of said series, but forms the final part of the Cynster sisters trilogy, which between them have a story all of their own. If you haven't read any of the earlier Cynster books,that's not too much of a problem, but you should read the three Cynster sisters books in the proper order to see parts of the plot unveiled as they should be!
Following from Viscount Breckenridge to the Rescue (Heather's story) and In Pursuit of Eliza Cynster (no prizes for guessing the heroine of that one!) this is the story of Angelica the youngest daughter of Lord Martin & Celia Cynster and sister of Gabriel and Lucifer.
The book has excitement, adventure, passion and lots of tall handsome males practically oozing testosterone - what's not to like?! I was looking forward to this volume and having the whole mystery cleared up and this was a clever, imaginative idea. Over the three books it's been great to see so many other members of the Cynster family, with a few Bastion Club and Black Cobra members thrown in for good measure! I love the feeling of continuity this gives to Laurens' world.
I think we have a hint that we may have more to come with the Cynster ladies - I for one can't wait!

Lake Placid XXII
A young woman seeks to find out the status of her father since he won't answer her calls or reply to her texts, so she decides to seek him out. It just so happens there is also a category 5 hurricane slamming her father's Florida home, but that doesn't stop her. She evades roadblocks and orders to evacuate since she is determined to ascertain her father's status.
She arrives and eventually locates him being trapped within the basement of his home. The water is rising quickly. She has to quickly assess the situation and attempt to get hr father to safety BUT...
ALLIGATOR!
I had a great time watching the girl and her father attempt to subdue their attacker as well as traverse the winding paths under the home to find safety and/or rescue. The claustrophobic feelings came over me quickly along with a sense of hesitation not knowing where the next gator encounter would come from.
As long as you can suspend your disbelief as to the likelihood of this situation actually happening you are in for a good ride. The CGI beasts were well done as they moved over both land and under water their presence was believable and terrifying.
I had a great time watching this!
