"Darwish, Palestinian poet of the Resistance, writes like breath. His passion for the essence of homeland is universal as well as painfully particular. A true master, a poet and a heart for the ages."

When it comes to the French Resistance of WWII, the names Blanche and Claude Auzello aren’t all that well-known. Thankfully, Melanie Benjamin has just written a biographical, historical fiction novel about them, and especially about Blanche, who during the Nazi occupation of Paris, was known as the “Mistress of the Ritz” and she was the wife of the hotel’s manager, Claude. You can find my review of this amazing book on my blog here (Thanks for the free book, @PRHGlobal/@prhinternational.) https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2019/05/24/puttin-on-the-resistance/

GOOD BOOK
Be prepared to tear up, I did. This work is so powerful! Its historical fiction that takes place during world war 2(loosely based on actual resistance fighting events i believe). Well worth reading! (I dont want to spoil it)

"A stunning, heartbreaking, cinema verite sprint through Beirut in the spirit of “400 Blows,” capturing loss, love, resistance and the determination to live — with one of the youngest, most charismatic finds in years, Zain al Rafeea, who plays a boy named Zain."

A quick game of bluff
With Resistance you can expect laughter - genuine, nervous, awkward, or all of the above. It's a relatively simple game to pick up and can be played within half an hour. It's all about trying to bluff and deceive your way to win the game.
You are either a traitor or part of the resistance who go away on small missions, voting for whether the mission fails or succeeds. Only traitors can cause a mission to fail and when it's discovered then that's where the deception comes in.
Who's betrayed the team? There's only one way to find out!

If you fail enough missions without capturing the traitors then they win, but if you manage to find them then the resistance wins. Simple.

This was a fairly solid true crime read. It was an interesting read, and the murders were horrible. Though, I couldn't make heads or tails of the real motive of the crimes. Money? Killing Nazis? Protecting the French Resistance? The author offers what he thought went down, but I wasn't really content.

"I’m always drawn to misunderstood movies, ones that were either ahead of or behind their times. This Melville crime film about the French Resistance was both. It took thirty-seven years to open in America, and when it did, it received great acclaim. A surprise happy ending for a complicated and unsentimental movie."
