Gabe's Revenge (McLeod Security #2) by Doris O'Connor
Gabe's Revenge is the second book in the McLeod Security series, and to be honest, I was confused for 90% of the book where McLeod Security actually fell in this story, although it all became clear.
Lissa is the daughter of Andrini, a small time crook with big dreams. She is unloved and unwanted, but is still surprised when her father sells her to Gabe in payment of a debt. She has no idea what is going on, and do react badly (normally!!) to begin with. However, as she learns more about Gabe and just what it is he does, her feelings grow. It's not all fun in paradise though, and they have to work through betrayal and lies to even have a chance of Happy Ever After.
This was a great story with plenty of action, both in and out of the sheets, going on. There were no editing or grammatical errors that disrupted my reading flow, and I found the pacing to be spot on. The transitions from one scene to the next were very smooth, and added to the reading experience. With a great cast of secondary characters, I thoroughly enjoyed every word, and look forward to reading more in this series. Absolutely recommended by me.

Revenge – Pike Style
There have been a string of home invasions in Los Angeles, but the latest target was Frank Meyer. He and his family have been found murdered in the aftermath, and their nanny has been rushed to the hospital, barely clinging to life. However, this time, the gang behind the crimes has made a big mistake. Frank was one of Joe Pike's men from his days as a mercenary. Even though the two haven't spoken in years, Pike still feels that loyalty and sets out to avenge his friend. Can he figure out why they were targeted and who is responsible?
I tend to think of Joe Pike as the strong, silent type, probably because he famously doesn't like to talk. The plot of this book shows us a different side of the character. He's still not a talker, but he is much more active and driven in his quest to avenge his friend. Unfortunately, the result didn't quite work for me. Part of it is me since I'm not a fan of revenge stories in general. The book is dark and violent, even for this series, and the twists weren't as good, some of them feeling forced into the story. Since it was the next in the series for me to read, I'm not sorry I read it, but it isn't author Robert Crais at this best. I suspect the fans who love the character of Joe Pike will enjoy this book more than I did.

The Pawn, a book that reminded me of several other books, but was uniquely its own in so many ways. Mythical tales, love, loyalty, and betrayal are just some of the elements Skye has included in this story. From the very beginning, it's impossible not to root for Avery as she does what's necessary to take care of her ailing father. With a strength that should be admirable by everyone, she chooses to sell herself in order to keep her dad alive and pay, not only for his care, but for bills. When she's bought at an auction by Gabriel, as a reader, I didn't know whether to be relieved - I mean, isn't it safer to stay with the devil you know than the devil you don't? - or worried. Not only because Gabriel is buying her body and buying her virginity, but because her father had betrayed him. Does Gabriel want more than just her body? Does he plan to use her as a way to extract even more revenge from her father? Or does he want to humiliate Avery even more to prove he is a man not to be messed with? These uncertainties haunt each moment the two of them spend together. With each turn of the page, I learned more secrets, which only lead to more questions. By the end, the unforgivable sting of betrayal and the promise of revenge are what makes me desperate to read the sequel. I loved every moment of this book - Skye, a job well done!

Medea is shunned by her family because of her magic, so when the ever-so-attractive Jason turns up with an exit plan, Medea decides to help him escape and take her with him. She’s obsessed with him: he pays her attention, and she’s never had anyone pay her attention in a good way before. But as his ardour wanes and he realises that Medusa is a liability, he cheats on her in a big way - and Medea is enraged. She will have her revenge.
I don’t blame her.
I liked that we learn her motivation for her radical actions - and I empathised with her. The first person narrative certainly helped with that. I didn’t agree with how she went about her revenge, but it was effective 🤷🏼♀️. You don’t often read about Hekate, either. I’m hoping Nikita Gill’s new book will sort that out (and I have it on my kindle to read!).

I was lucky enough to be gifted this along with an Arc copy of book 2 in the series and I can’t wait to see how these lives continue to unfold.

[Preston Fleming] continues his Kamas trilogy with [Star Chamber Brotherhood]. This one did not seem to have the confusion that the first one did which leads me to believe that was intentional in the first book. This book is about justice or revenge depending how you view it. The sense of responsibility the characters have to the idea of justice formed in the labor camps is very strong and carries the tone of the story.
I read the two books back to back and vaguely remembered the main character of Frank from the first book. I like how the story is consistent between the two books but [Fleming] uses a different character as the lead in book two. I am looking forward to reading the third book.

Fantastic movie if you were a fan of Brandon Lee. Though Brandon was killed while filming this movie it's still an enjoyable movie about Eric Draven a young rock star and his fiance Shelly Webster who planned their wedding for Halloween or Devil's Night. Eric returns home to find that nasty people are in the apartment with Shelly. They shoot Eric who falls out the window of the attic apartment to his death. They then rape and seriously wound Shelly. Dr's battled to save her but were unable. A year later on Devil's Night Eric is brought back to life to seek revenge on the ones who hurt and killed Shelly. He is helped along the way by a crow.
