I read this book because I received an email from the author, asking to read and then post a review. Before I downloaded it, I looked up the few reviews the book had already gotten - I was excited when someone compared Brett to James Patterson, so I chose to give it a try. Honestly, though, I wish I hadn't. Nothing against the author, truly, but because my review will not be what he is probably hoping for, I almost wish I hadn't said I would read it/leave a review. I tried so hard to like this book, even when I immediately knew the topic was going to be tough for me to be interested in. Unfortunately, I couldn't get into it. The multiple perspectives were repetitive; I felt like his kept going off "on a tangent", for example, when he was explaining how the mechanical eagle worked. Try as I might, I just didn't like it, but I also feel like the topic isn't for everyone, particularly me.

Can I just say: OMFG! I read some of the other reviews and can't believe so many people only gave this 1 or 2 stars. I absolutely loved Lauren's story. I usually immediately hope for the couple to split if there are problems in the beginning, but something made me want Lauren and Cal to work things out. I was enraptured and confused with Cal's moods, which made me desperate to know why he acts the way he does. When he left, I felt Lauren's pain. Few books have made me hurt and cry over a goodbye, but I felt as if Cal had left me, too. I was emotionally invested in each of the characters. By the time I finished, I was amazed, shocked, and determined to immediately find the rest of the series. I'm intrigued by the thought of how Lauren and "Chris" will work things out. He seems like a good guy, but I want Cal back! It will be interesting to see what happens in the future - I have so many guesses!

Technically my mum won a copy of this book via Goodreads' Giveaways/First Reads program, but since she doesn't write reviews and I do, I'll read it too.

3.5 stars.

So, I've read it. And though it isn't my usual genre--I like to mix it up every so often--I must admit I got quite into it. I wanted to know what happened that night; what secret were the mum and daughter keeping? Was it really that bad? Who was this guy scaring them?

Now that I've read it, I've gotten answers to all of the above and strangely enough; I kind of feel it was justified. How Louise and Brooke went about it was just all wrong on many levels, especially what Louise did. I was extremely put off by that.

Some of the other stuff put me off as well. What was with Michael?

As I mentioned above, this isn't my usual genre but for a first book--going via createspace for paperbacks--this is a pretty good book.

Why did I not read this sooner?!?! It's been idly waiting on my kindle for a few months and jeez, I so should have read it sooner.

It is AWESOME!
Remington 'Riptide' Tate is AWESOME!
Brooke is AWESOME!
Their love story is EPICALLY AWESOME!

I've read so many good reviews for this and I had high expectations for it, and let me tell you it did not disappoint.

The first few pages where there's the build up to Remy entering the ring, I was grinning like an idiot at everyone's reaction and I was waiting for my first glimpse of him. Phwoar! He is HOT! And just reading about how easily he knocks his opponents out...well, what can I say *fans self*.

Then when he meets Brooke's gaze...some really hot chemistry going on there and I was all "Go Brooke, go Brooke, go Brooke!"

These two are probably one of my favourite book couples and I cant wait to read Mine, Remy, Ripped and Raw...eeeeh! Excited!
