"I managed to survive the sixties with very long hair and very little insight into politics. Everything I didn’t want to think about Richard Nixon was brought to life in a remarkable performance by Philip Baker Hall in Robert Altman’s underappreciated classic."

Not as bad as I was expecting! Way too long at close to 2 hours, must have been so they could fit in so many scenes of Demi stripping. Surprised to see Ving Rhames and Robert Patrick were in this along with a funny Burt Reynolds. Quite funny in places.

"Between 1971 and 1975, Robert Altman could do no wrong, and Nashville is the culmination of that streak. There had rarely been before him in Hollywood such a sense of liberty, of independence, of genuine spontaneity. The long takes, the tracking shots, the space he gives actors, the way he lets them overlap, the looseness and the depth of the narratives—it was a breath of fresh air in a usually stuffy and hostile environment. It didn’t last long, though."

Raging Bull (1980)
Raging Bull (1980)

"…and it’s something that happens with Raging Bull, also. And Marty Scorsese’s notion of sound — the memory. Sound memory is so important in Raging Bull; when you see the scene where Robert De Niro shows Cathy Moriarty his father’s house and tells him about the bird — “It was a bird, it’s dead” — and what’s going on around in the street, and you realize how important sound is. The other thing is the acting: Joe Pesci and Robert are so great together. I mean, the hardest thing in the world to do is just shoot two people in a room. All these other things are very easy to do — you get 150 people, you turn your camera on, you create a situation and as long as nobody looks at the camera you can make them seem very real. [Two people in a room] is really difficult. If I think of Robert Duvall, say, talking to Al Pacino in The Godfather two, when Al says to him, “Well what’d you get my son for Christmas?” and he says, “I got him a little car,” and Robert Duvall puts his hand over the couch — these are gestures that people understand as human gestures and they bring you into the storytelling."

"While working in story on an early version of Wall-E, I boarded a sequence featuring a chase through a cityscape. Andrew Stanton, the film’s director, called me on it: “This is so Third Man!” He had a big smile on his face, and why wouldn’t he? I’ve learned where to find tough guys who cast long shadows. And I’ve also learned where to milk a character reveal: Carol Reed plus Anton Karas plus Robert Krasker equals Harry Lime, and cinematic perfection"

Call Me A Fangirl
Is this the greatest Marvel film of all time? Honestly no. that being said this is brilliant adaptation of spiderman. It's got back to it roots, of being a young kid who happeneds to develop superhuman powers there no long drawn out love story which takes over the whole film. Yes there is a love interest but it not the main thing. The comedy in this film was outstanding. Tom Holland prefoance was brilliant the side characters was entertaing and exciting. Obviously Robert Downey Jnr just adds that extra to an already brilliant film. To the critic that say marvel have had it day you obviously aren't watching what I am. To the creator of the final end credit scence well played.
