Dean (6927 KP) rated If Only (2004) in Movies
Sep 11, 2018
A Romantic drama that seems to have been missed by most. Jennifer Love Hewitt and a few familiar English faces pop up in this. Set in London a man gets to relive a day in which things didn't work out between him and his girlfriend before she is in an accident. Will he be able to change the path of destiny and save her second time round? Quite similar but not quite as good as Sliding doors, which had the same type of plot and also set in London. If you like romantic films which deal with fate and destiny you will like this. Don't mistake it for a Rom-Com though, not much to laugh at here.

This is a beautifully written novel that I really didn’t want to finish. It explores the gaps between science and superstition, and between friendship and romantic love. I felt immersed in 1890s Victorian England. I loved the bits about the surgeon Luke Garrett and his companion Martha who was a suffragette as well.

This was the perfect mix of genres. The dystopian world that Burke creates was fantastic in a steampunk way. The fact that the characters are pirates adds yet another element. Both main characters, Rose and Miranda, are complex and the romantic tension between them is another element to this already complex plot.
Ross (3284 KP) rated Remain in Light by Talking Heads in Music

Rolling Stone's 129th greatest album of all time
Talking Heads at their inimitable best. Once in a Lifetime is truly one of the best songs of all-time. The blend of post-punk stylings with a more pop angle, but without the cringey new-romantic nonsense marks them apart from their peers.

I enjoyed this.
I managed to keep up with the plot even though the vampire elves threw me off a little at the beginning. The romantic thing she had going on with a certain asassin was also kinda entertaining. I'm interesting in following both of these and I'm off to borrow book 2.
