Lyrically beautiful, humanist version of Greek mythology
For fans of Greek mythology, this is an absolute dream. Focusing on the stories of the wife of Agamemnon, Clytemnestra, and children, Electra and Orestes, Colm Toibin brings to life very human characters in which all are victim and perpetrator.
Hearing perspectives of all three following the sacrifice of daughter Iphigenia, then the murder of Agamemnon as well as the banishment of Orestes, we hear how each feel betrayed and in turn seek vengeance or what they deem is justice.
While most of it is faithful to the original story, a few characters have been added to flesh out the main roles including best friend and lover of Orestes, Leander. A great read for mythology fans.

A new twist and an old genre.
So, I got this book on google play for 25 cents I think it was. One of their sales. I didn't know what to expect from a book that was about the aftermath of the zombie outbreak but in the end I was surprised.
The characters are ones that I generally cared about and that made the book that much better. The story moved along nicely while not seeming to sacrifice content.
The worst part about this book is that to me it seemed caught between young adult and normal fiction. Not that it hurt but some points just didn't feel up to the task of being a grown up story.

A devastating look at the cost of motherhood
You know how Requiem for a Dream was one of the best films you’ll never watch again because it’s just too rough on the soul? This is another in that great tradition.
A story of family, a story of the cost of status and ever-rising costs-of-surviving in an ever growing technological age, and of self-sacrifice and the pitfalls of deep motherly love, this film will grip and rip your heart for the entirety of the run.
It’s all too real. It’s all too near. And you’ll recommend it to friends again and again.

Couldn’t put it down
Adam Kay delights us with his diary entries of his time as a Junior doctor. I was gripped from the moment I started and couldn’t put the book down! I found myself getting pulled in with the highs and lows of his chosen profession. There were lots of giggles to be had, and some solemn moments also. But more than this it shines yet further light on those men and women that sacrifice a lot in the pursuit of healing others and the poor conditions that they find themselves working in. Thanks @Smashbomb for picking me in the giveaway, and allowing me the opportunity to read something so thought provoking.
