This is a story about two people separated by a physical barrier which is either magic or a miracle, depending on your viewpoint. The 'townies' fear the 'forest folk' and when dark magic started leaking into their town, they decided to put a barrier up to keep out the darkness. At least, that's the story that Ivy believes.

The tale unravels a list of deceptions and prejudices whilst dealing with dark magic and sacrifice. It also deals with love and how deep a love can go, even when circumstances aren't exactly light and fluffy.

It was well-written with no plot holes that I found. The only thing that I found jarred me slightly was the mention of modern technology but that just helped to emphasise the differences between the townies and the forest folk.

A wonderful story that enthralled me, definitely recommended.

This story is filled with so many emotions! Grace's life has been filled with so much heartache. When she finally finds her nephew, she is determined to keep him in her life, at any cost. The need to protect him and reunite her family drives Grace to a place she never thought she would go. But is she really just running from forgiving herself for the past?

Andrew Easton has spent his life serving to please others. But what about his own dreams and desires? Will he sacrifice everything he longs for just to please his family? Or will he stand up for himself and take the path for the future HE wants?

There are so many interesting characters in this story. The layers of personality are lovely. Virginia is one of my favorite people and I am so glad we get to follow her story too!

Set in the beautiful city of Toronto, it is wonderful to get a new perspective of history in the early 1900s.

I received a complimentary copy of The Best of Intentions from the publishers. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine alone.

Incredible attention to detail...
I wasn't sure what to expect when I first set eyes on Chernobyl but I have to say I was hooked from the very beginning. It is the incredible attention to even the smallest detail that sets Chernobyl apart from many other TV shows. It is brilliantly written which makes for some very tense, dramatic and heartbreaking scenes. The whole cast give a near perfect performance to add to the story and must be applauded for that.

Chernobyl is a tale of two stories, the first is a gritty, scarily realistic take on the aftermath of a disastrous event that could have had changed the face of the planet as we know it, if it weren't for the bravery and subsequent sacrifice of the men and women who tried to contain it. The second is a tale of the corruption and politics surrounding the disaster. A courtroom drama set out to reveal the truth to what really happened on that fateful day in April, 1986.

To sum it up Chernobyl was pretty close to perfect for me and for that reason I score it a 10 out of 10.

Today on my blog, I have a fascinating interview with Cindy K Sproles, author of the Christian historical romance WHAT MOMMA LEFT BEHIND. There's also a GIVEAWAY to win a copy of the book and a $20 Barnes & Noble or $5 Starbucks GIFT CARD!

**BOOK SYNOPSIS**
Worie Dressar is seventeen years old when influenza and typhoid ravage her Appalachian Mountain community in 1877, leaving behind a growing number of orphaned children with no way to care for themselves. Worie's mother has been secretly feeding a number of these little ones on Sourwood Mountain. But when she dies suddenly, Worie is left to figure out why and how she was caring for them.

Plagued with two good-for-nothing brothers—one greedy and the other a drunkard—Worie fights to save her home and the orphaned children now in her begrudging care. Along the way, she will discover the beauty of unconditional love and the power of forgiveness as she cares for all of Momma's children.

Storyteller and popular speaker Cindy K. Sproles pens a tender novel full of sacrifice, heartache, and courage in the face of overwhelming obstacles.

The Valkyries Calling (Half-blood Rising 2)
By Lucy Roy
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The conquest of Lindoroth seems all-but settled. The monarchs have fled the capital, the usurpers have taken over the thrones, and two foreign armies have descended on the five realms. Lindoroth's fate has fallen at the feet of a king and queen in exile and a spy for the Lindorothian crown.

While Freya and Aerelius hunt for allies in places they least expect to find them, Lea Calliwell takes matters into her own hands by infiltrating the lives of the people who murdered her family and stole her kingdom. Thrust into peril at opposite ends of the world, Freya and Lea must do whatever it takes to save their people, even if it means making the greatest sacrifice of all.

This world and its story are so intense. The characters are all worth investing in. This is part 2 and after escaping with their lives just about the new King and Queen have to find a way to win the war. It’s really really good!

⭐️⭐️⭐️

After escaping a serial killer, Sierra travels to London, ready to embrace her supernatural heritage.

In addition to training, she has to assert her place among the snobbish elite and decide what to do about Gavin as he grows more distant and teams up on a mission with his charming ex.

To claim her spot in the supernatural world, Sierra trains harder than ever with Cooper who tasked with protecting her soon becomes more.

But matters of the heart will have to wait as the Culpatus returns with unexpected allies and the intention to fulfill a dark prophecy that spells the end of the world.

It was good it picks up with Gavin and sierra arriving in London so she can start her training. Her and Gavin are separated as he has to go hunting for killers with his ex and she’s left with Cooper learning her powers. Safe to say all hell breaks lose and a lot of things become clear. It was decent and well written.

The Trees Grew Because I Bled There: collected stories
By Eric LaRocca
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Eight stories of dark fiction from a master storyteller. Exploring the shadow side of love, these are tales of grief, obsession, control. Intricate examinations of trauma and tragedy in raw, poetic prose. A woman imagines horrific scenarios whilst caring for her infant niece; on-line posts chronicle a cancer diagnosis; a couple in the park with their small child encounter a stranger with horrific consequences; a toxic relationship reaches a terrifying resolution…

This was a compilation of stories from a very talented authors. You get taken on a journey with these short stories. A few stories stood out from the crowd! The Strange things we become a story of how cancer destroys everything it touches and plays with the mind.
You’re not supposed to be here l, I think this is my favourite of them all a parents worst nightmare and a dark tale of secrets and desperation.
I’d also mention Where Flames Burned as Grass, would you sacrifice your child on the word of a complete stranger?

Really enjoyed these stories and the writing style.

Writer/Director M. Night Shyamalan is back with his new thriller “Knock at
the Cabin” and like his earlier works; the film blends reality with
supernatural elements to put ordinary people in circumstances that are
dangerous and unnatural.
The film involves a same-sex couple named Eric (Jonathan Groff) and Andrew
(Ben Aldridge), who have taken their adopted daughter Wen (Kristen Cui),
to a secluded cabin for a relaxing vacation.

The arrival of four strangers lead by the imposing but soft-spoken Leonard
(Dave Bautista) becomes dangerous when Leonard informs them that the world
is about to end and only by choosing to sacrifice one of them can the
Apocalypse be diverted.

Leonard explains that the four had the same vision of the end of the world
and that they were drawn to save it by taking such drastic actions. They
inform their captives that they will not harm them but they will not be
allowed to leave as they must make the choice and failure to do so will
doom everyone and force the three of them to exist as the sole-survivors
of the aftermath.

Convinced that the intruders are insane; Eric and Andrew refuse the offer
and watch as one of the four captives sacrifices themselves which is soon
followed by news on the television of a massive earthquakes which resulted
in tsunamis.

Convinced it is a ruse or simply timed events to the days news; the
captives again refuse a request only to see another sacrifice followed by
more news of devastation happening around the world.

What follows is a tight thriller as Eric and Andrew learn more about their
captives and the changing world situation which forces them to confront a
world gone mad.

The film is good at setting a tone and maintaining a mild tension
throughout as the audience is left to wonder how real what is being
presented by Leonard and his associates are. I liked the fact that the
movie did not try to wrap things up nice and tidy and left the audiences
with some questions about the events as well as what would happen in the
aftermath.

Bautista gives an career-best performance and shows that his is capable of
doing more than the action-comedy genre which he has been playing to date
and I hope he continues to seek roles such as this.

While the film may not reach the levels of some of his earlier classics,
Shyamalan has crafted an entertaining film that keeps you guessing.

It has been a long time since I was captivated by a book so badly I didn’t realised is was 3 am on a week night and I was still reading it. Brandon Sanderson is an amazing writer with a style the flows smoothly. However what I love about this writer is the way he depicts his characters. In a world where bravery is valued over everything (to the point that kids are thaught to blindly sacrifice themselves rather than be marked as a coward), Spensa grew up with the stigma of a coward father. But she is a fighter and she navigates life with the confidence of a hero from the past, only to find out - when faced with reality - that being an hero is not that easy. Skyward is a book about many things: spaceships, alien war, AI and human relations with them, post apocalypse society, and search for the truth. But mostly is the journey of a teenager who though she had everything figured it out only to discover that between black and white there are all the shades of colour and that everything in life comes at a price.
