Mark Halpern (153 KP) rated Fight Club (1999) in Movies

The first rule of fight club
A movie with tons of twists and turns as we Ed Norton and Brad Pitt duke it out on several occasions. A story of an insurance adjuster who needs emotional contact with people around him finds refuge with a soap sales man who encourages him to fight out his troubles and rage against the world around him. The first time I saw this I didn't not see the ending coming but, once you have watched it all the way through you pick up on certain clues which don't spoil the movie but make even better.

Not my favourite
It's been a while since I saw this film, but one of the most important things I came away with after watching this film was how forgettable it was. It was no way in the league of other renowned Pixar films such as Monsters Inc or Toy Story, and it was too far fetched and a little silly in comparison to the other films.
While I enjoy mythology, and it's a great way for young people to explore other cultures, I don't think it's for adults as such.

Good idea, bad execution
I remember watching this when it first came out at the cinema and thinking it was actually not too bad, and very gruesome and horrific. Watching it again recently, it doesn't actually come across that well. It's a very good idea, but I think the whole plot is spoilt by the boys holiday theme which is overdone. And some of the acting is terrible, which really loses the sense of terror and suspense. The gore too is underwhelming, after having seen the Saw films etc, Hostel comes across as far too tame.
Domonique (0 KP) rated What Alice Forgot in Books

I absolutely loved loved loved this book! I had such a hard time getting anything done when all I wanted to do was read. I loved the characters and it was interesting to see how a person can change over the course of a decade. So many things happened to turn Alice into the woman she came, and a simple bump on the head changed all that in an instant. I especially loved the way that Alice saw the world, both before and after the accident. This is one of those books I could read again and again!

I had a few thoughts while watching this film: Would Nicole Kidman actually look like that in real life if she hadn't gotten her face done? As well as, damn, I think this film is a remake of Point Break.
I saw this a few days ago, and honestly, Sebastian Stan was the best part. I didn't think there was enough of him, obviously, the story was focused on Nicole Kidman's character. The storytelling was interesting, and a pleasant surprise. But, this film is essentially Point Break by another name with slight changes.

ALilLacey (2 KP) rated The Mortal Instruments 1: City of Bones in Books

I tried to like City of Bones more after reading many great reviews. It wasn't terrible, I just had a hard time getting into the story line. I felt like Clary only being 15 was my main issue. Decisions she made and the situations she was in were hard for me to place a 15 year old in. I did like the idea of the plot and another world that not all can see. The twist at the end was definitely not something I saw coming and will keep me reading through the rest of the series.

classics never die, unlike graboids
I first saw this via those discs you get when you used to first buy a DVD player, a handful of B movies and this hidden gem, this film convinced me to give B movies a second chance, Tremors is made up of a small cast of good actors, it takes place in the middle of a desert in a nowhere town, two guys going about their business until something starts killing people, what follows is B movie gold, well worth a watch.

Brilliant Story (2 more)
Great Acting
Proper Kick Ass
That's how you do a superhero movie!
I've always known Wonder Women as a huge icon in the DC franchise however with limited spotlight in over the last 20 years she was kinda off my radar - until I saw this! The movie is fantastic, It's got a great story (believable) and just the right amount of superhero action to appreciate what they are capable of. Gal and the team did a superb job and I can even go as far to say it is probably one if my all time favourite superhero movies. Loved it

The technology on show (1 more)
Good SFX for the budget
A great Upgrade
I saw this the other night after seeing good reviews for it. I'm not sure if it got a cinema release in the UK? It's a great Australian made film. A bit like a sci-fi Deathwish mixing humans with advanced Ai technology and body enhancements. The technology shown in the film, set in the near future, is really good and not far from what is available. This made the film more interesting. Throw in some good action and SFX and you have a great film that went under the radar.
Erika (17789 KP) rated The Lonely Island Presents: The Unauthorized Bash Brothers Experience (2019) in Movies
May 23, 2019
When I saw on instagram that The Lonely Island surprise released something on Netflix, I was kind of glad I was sick today. It's visual poetry about Mark 'McGwire' and Jose 'Canseco', mostly featuring doping. Apparently, it was supposed to somewhat resemble Beyonce's Lemonade, which I've never seen because I can't stand Beyonce.
The songs are solid Lonely Island songs, absurd and crude, as always, but hilarious. The cameos were good too, Sterling K. Brown played Sia in one song, and there were SNL and B99 actors throughout. Overall, not a bad 30 minutes for a The Lonely Island fan.
