"When I saw Dazed and Confused, it would have been the early ’90s. I remember I was in Seattle at the time, and I went to the $1.50 movie theater we had, the UA 150, which no longer exists. I’ve always been a fan of time travel and I remember going to Dazed and Confused and being transported to that time period. I just lost it. I really felt what it was to be in that time period because, although I’d been a small kid, I definitely remember the ’70s. It’s mostly a feeling, but that movie took me right back there. It was amazing, everything about it. It was only one day, an intense day, but at that age one day can mean everything. The archetypes and the way the high school was filmed, it just felt really grounded. I grew up in Great Falls, Montana, and I related to the setting and the people. Sociologically, it just nails human behavior. There’s nothing absurd about it. And Ben Affleck plays an asshole, which he’s perfect for."

For such a short book, this was really, really, good. It had humour, a bit of romance and zombies.

I loved Reagan and Haley's attitude considering it's the end of the world and they are two of the few remaining humans in a world overrunning with zombies. They're always joking and having a laugh with each other.

As for the brothers. I think I loved Hendrix from the moment he was tending to Reagan's wounds and trying not to laugh at her reaction to him seeing her hairy legs (still makes me laugh just thinking about it :P). The other's we haven't really gotten to know yet but they all seem like nice guys.

There are a few wording errors but they're easy to overlook because the story is so gripping.

After being half way through I had to go and hunt out the other 11 episodes on Amazon and saw that the omnibus/boxset of books 1-6 was free as well so I quickly downloaded it and am now eagerly awaiting a time when I can find out what happens next!

I'm not going to go all out description on this, because honestly you should just see it.

The world now has a net of satellites that control the weather on Earth. Something goes wrong and there's a battle against the clock to find the person behind it and to stop the oncoming Geostorm.

I saw this one in 3D as it coincided with getting out of work. Yet another film that makes me think I don't need to see 3D films, and I certainly wouldn't if I was paying full price for them.

I love natural disaster films... what's not to love? Catastrophic volcano/tornado/earthquake/snow storm/tsunami... any combination of those... add some sharks... bingo! Are any of them going to win best movie? No. Do I care? Also, no. They're good fun, they're action filled, they like to take the piss out of themselves a little bit. I will be buying this when the DVD comes out, and I will love it all over again.

Even though I'm a scientist I rarely read non-fiction for down time. But when I saw this book pop up, I thought "Penguins. Homosexuality. This sounds interesting." It's a common misconception that penguins mate for life and this book first explores this misconception. By following a number of key people who's sole mission was to be the first at the South pole, Lloyd Spencer Davis narrates finds of penguins, extreme conditions and human responses over a number to voyages. Lloyd Spencer Davis also interjects with his studies of adiele penguins and his research into the people who contributed towards the voyage and research of adiele penguin mating rituals and habits by the first ever penguin biologist, Levick. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it was easy to read with elements of humour and some beautiful language to describe the terrain. My only criticism is that it would have been beneficial to include a map of Antartica to get a judge of distance and bearing to help visualise the journies more.

The original beginning of the Dark Universe
In the early 2000s we saw a drop in great movies, even good ones and was left with the occasional sleeper hit and the obvious box office hits.

In 2004 universal released 'Van Helsing', with pretty decent promoting, and some neat casting with rising stars Hugh Jackman & Kate Beckinsale at the helm - with Richard Roxburgh as Dracula (also Robbie Coltrane as Mr Hyde)

The Story:
Van Helsing is on a mission from God, to rid evil from the world. After a 'paris job' goes wrong, Helsing returns to the Vatican to be briefed on this next assignment which sees helsing and his ally and friar named carl heading to Transylvania, to hunt down and kill count Dracula.
Joining forces with a Gypsy Princess named Anna who also seeks to kill Dracula in order to break her family's curse before her bloodline ends allowing her family to enter the kindom of heaven.

The general outline of the plot, of a 12 year old boy who wished he was older and had that wish granted.

That's about all I could remember of this film: it must have been at least a decade since I last saw it.

So, yes, 12 year old Josh makes a wish on a (scary looking) funfair machine, and wakes up the next morning to find himself aged. With nobody except his best friend believing him, he heads to New York where he gets a low paid data input job while he tries to track down said funfair machine, until a chance encounter leads to him getting a new job testing and okaying with toys. All the while his mum believes he is missing.

Josh then starts to get distracted by his new life and by his colleague Susan, finally deciding he misses his old life and making another (granted) wish once he tracks down the funfair machine.

I feel sorry for Susan at the end.
