Movie Favorite

"Harvey is one of my all-time favorite films. This movie I saw when I was younger and I feel like it struck a chord with me, then, probably primarily because of Jimmy Stewart’s performance and the kind of magic that is this character that he refers to that we don’t see as an audience. But I think… I loved it and I’ve watched it many times since, and it’s a movie that has gotten more profound for me as I’ve gotten older, and I feel I’ve gotten different things out of it every time. It’s a movie whose construct is kind of up for interpretation, I think. You could easily make an argument that his character of Elwood Dowd is a drunk, for instance, and, you know, Harvey is a manifestation of that. You could say he’s a man who has given up on reality and, therefore, he’s happier, and Harvey is a manifestation of that. It’s such a beautiful film and there’s such humanity in the film and there’s something so enlightened — regardless of what is actually genuinely going on with Elwood’s character — there’s something so enlightened about him that everyone else is actually more insane than he is, and that always really struck a chord with me."

I love films like this next one. Girls Trip looked like so much fun every time I saw I clip that it was definitely going to be on the list. So here's the Red Band trailer for you...

The Flossy Posse haven't seen each other for five years, somewhere along the way, life happened. But that's about to change. Ryan Pierce is the keynote speaker at this year's Essence Music Festival, and she's getting the gang back together for a long overdue reunion.

While Ryan has great things to look forward to in her career, everything isn't all smooth sailing, and the same goes for the others, although no one wants to admit it. Can they find their old spark again and set themselves on the right path before the partying ends?..

This film made me sad... oh, it wasn't a sad movie, it made me sad that I've never had a group of girls to dance off with. These four lovely ladies really worked well off each other. And hey, if you fancy setting the internet trolls off... I think they would make an excellent front line for the next Ghostbusters movie. Just saying.

Seriously though, this film was really funny. You'll laugh, you'll cringe, and you'll do it along to some fantastic music.

didn't quite work for me
Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.

Oren goes to thank his mum's neighbour for helping her when she fell, and he falls, HARD! Pete is married, though, right?

So, three things let this book down, for ME.

Strike one
Single person point of view. Only Oren has a say.

Strike two
First person, present tense. Just doesn't work for me.

Strike three
This was a very VERY short book, took me less than 30 minutes to read it. I have no idea why this lets it down, but you know me and my book feelings and this is what I feel!

BUT

Positive one
When Oren and Pete are on the same page for the first time, they are both straight into whatever *this* is between them.

Positive two
Loved Pete's ex-wife's reaction to finding Pete and Oren getting a little touchy feely.

Positive three
Loved the reaction of Pete's kids to their Extra-Daddy.

It is well written, and I saw no spelling or editing errors to spoil my reading. It was a *nice* read. (And you know how I feel about using that word!)

3 good solid stars

I love Disney. Fact. And one of my favourite non princess movies is the Lion King, closely followed by Lion King 1/2. But the point is, I love the Lion King. The soundtrack is some of the best songs in Disney history! Name a better playlist to clean to! You can't!
I never thought it could get better. Until I saw the Lion King Musical. O.M.G. it was magical. There is no other way to describe it. The only thing that could have made it better, was if we had aisle seats on the floor because the animals walk down them to the stage and you can see y he crazy amazing costumes they have! But hakuna matata! Even from the grand circle it was so beautiful! The songs where 100% when they echoed throughout the building. I felt like I was on stage! And its probably not supposed to be, but I thought it was funnier watching Timon and Pumba being lugged around the stage and still having such hilarious dialogue. I will definitely go and see this one again when I'm in London and I recommend it to everyone! Lion King will never be the same afterwards, and that's a guarantee!

Angel Has Fallen (2019)
Angel Has Fallen (2019)
2019 | Action, Drama, Thriller
In 2013, Olympus Fell ("Olympus Has Fallen").

Although I saw it, I don't remember much about it other than it was one of the 2 'Die Hard in the White House' movies that came out that year (the other being "White House Down") and that it starred Gerard Butler (wit "Olympus" being the code name of the White House).

In 2016, London Fell ("London Has Fallen")

I remember even less about it, other than it was a sequel, again starring Gerard Butler, and took place in, well, London.

Now, in 2019, "Angel Has Fallen".

The 'Angel' of that is the codename of Gerard Butler's Secret Service Agent Mike Banning, returning for a third time in the series, and here framed for an attempted assassination attempt on the US President (Morgan Freeman, taking over from the earlier Aaron Eckhart) and on the run from both his own government and from those who framed him (and want to finish the job, so to speak).

If you've seen any of the earlier entries, you'll know pretty much what to expect: gunfire, explosions, more gunfire, running, a ham-fisted "Russia bad! America good!" allegory thrown in, more gunfire ...

Not a bad way to while away a few hours, but not brilliant either,
