Joe Mantegna recommended The Producers (1967) in Movies (curated)

The Producers (1967)
The Producers (1967)
1967 | Classics, Comedy

"The Producers is one of my favorite movies, and I don’t mean the musical. I mean the original one that Mel Brooks directed, with Zero Mostel. I saw it when it first came out. I saw it in the movie theaters, back in the ’60s. I just think as a comedy, and also being in the business as I am, and coming from theater, it just had that much more impact for me. That’s a movie I like very much."

Sleeping Beauty or The Snow Queen?

Even though I liked the book I didn't see the connection to Sleeping Beauty. I drew more parallels to the Snow Queen. The curse that strips someone of emotion all the references to ice get my point? I mean, there are SEVERAL versions of the Sleeping Beauty tale none of which I saw.

Yes, Jade is given a storybook with that particular tale but that's the only time I saw the connection. It honestly makes me sad.

"This was the first political film I ever saw that had strong genre elements. I saw it when I was a teenager, so the story was quite obscure to me, and yet I fell into it because I was so enthralled by the pacing. It’s a brilliant portrait of what it means to be pushed into telling something other than the truth. I found myself riveted by all the different perspectives that can inform how we understand a single event."

Saw an advanced showing of this movie and I thought it was so uplifting even though there were cringeworthy moments because of some of the racist language and actions, but that made the movie authentic.

This is a cool teen thriller. Suprised it's not more well know as I only saw it through a recommendation. It's good fun if predictable. Very similar to The Faculty and with a strong cast.

"One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest is a movie that I just find flawless. Jack Nicholson… I just saw The Shining again the other day; he’s so brilliant. He’s such a brilliant actor, just unbelievable."
