I really enjoyed this movie. Nowadays, it takes more than a jump scare and some blood to get me to hop out of my seat and pay attention. I need atmosphere and creep factor and this movie delivered.
The old "killer goes after those that have sex in a horror movie" rule gets turned on its head with a new and, dare I say it, modern perspective.

I loved the eclectic, old Polaroid quality of each shot, giving the movie a retro vibe while being futuristic at the same time -- setting the movie in no exact time frame.

You watch the trailer and you think "Hey, this looks kinda creepy." So you decide to give it a shot.. you invite a friend over and you watch and ..now you don't think that friends ever gonna come over anymore because of your horrible taste in movies. Look, this could have been a solid little scare if they had focused more on the Hitker occult mythos rather than over used tropes. The only hatred I have is for this movie

I want repress the memory of watching this like that ex Nazi oppressed his daughter.

A few jumps scares but an inconsistent tale.
Probably one of the better films in the Conjuring universe. Some of the others kinda bored me, but this one kept my interest until the end. Frustrating that so many of these movies are so similar. The genre seems to have been done to death. This one had some decent jump scares. but a few of the details among the lore of the title deity and getting rid of her were very obviously filled with holes. Very inconsistent writing. Still a decent movie for a cheap scare on a Friday night.

"I watched this 1947 stark, black and white, noirish prison drama as part of research for a film I directed called Animal Factory, written by novelist and ex-convict Eddie Bunker. For years I thought director Jules Dassin was a Frenchman working in the U.S. I was surprised to learn he was an American (Russian Jew) from Connecticut who fled the U.S. during the red scare of the fifties. He ended up in Paris and made the wonderful French film Rififi, which added to my confusion. The Naked City (1948) by Dassin is also a classic, shot on gloriously gritty locations in New York City."
