Really interesting, fresh & freaky horror offering
I'm a lover of horror movies, so there's not too much worth seeing in that genre that hasn't played in my house. Generally, these days, most horrors are disappointing, lack lustre, devoid of any depth of storyline and are cast with people who seem not to have had a sniff at acting in their lives. This movie surprised me. The acting was pretty solid, the casting was good. Everyone was believable & likeable. The autopsy footage itself didn't shy away from the needful, but wasn't gore hungry. I wasn't left frustrated and wanting to see more nor was a balking at a bloodbath before me. A big complaint of mine with horrors these days is the lack of fear factor or not feeling sufficiently creeped out. This little movie did achieve its potential with me. I did feel the old pulse quickening a few times, which was a pleasant surprise for me as everything seems to have been done again and again in horror, so a scare is always welcome.
Fans of big budget mainstream horror probably won't find anything of interest here. Purveyors of all kinds of horrors and lovers of all movies in general should check this one out.

Labeled a classic and dubbed as a mystery/slasher film, Scream is a film you can turn to for years to come when you’re in need of a blood bath. If you’re a 90s baby like me, then you probably have. I wouldn’t go so far as to say I consider it a favorite, but it is definitely a movie I like to watch when I need to relax.
One of the things that I really like about Scream is the fact that it serves a dual purpose: it sates my thirst for blood while simultaneously making a mockery of itself. If you’re new to the horror genre, then it’s an easy and entertaining way to learn the “rules” of horror movies – and then watch as the cast adheres to them without failure. Of course, these aren’t real rules in as much as they are unspoken. For prime examples of movies that highlight these rules, I point you to Halloween, The Nightmare on Elm Street, and Friday the 13th.
Scream is one of those films that is more likely to draw a bit of laughter from me than it is likely to scare me. To some degree, this is because I’ve seen it so many times. To another… it’s honestly hilarious.

It has been a while since I read anything scary, so I decided to give this one a go. Unfortunately, while this wasn't exactly a bad book, for being horror it was pretty light in the scares department. Following a very down-on-her-luck girl who rents a room from a rather shady landlord in what turns out to be a haunted boarding house, it would seem like a good set-up for creepy goings-on, and there are all manner of upsetting things that happen. The problem lies in the way they are presented. Most of the situations that have the strongest potential at building suspense are set-up, and then suddenly told after the fact. In doing so, it removes pretty much all fear from the equation, as we already know more-or-less what transpired before reading about it in grisly detail. Nevermind that the protagonist's actions require some extreme suspension of disbelief, at least try to scare me from time to time. Things do improve in the markedly different (and better) second half, but by then it's a case of too little too late. A decent enough read that I might check out some more of this author's books, but I can't say I recommend this one.

Superbly Tense

Just a quick one as I've already filmed a review for this that said all I needed to say, but this is, for the most part, a wonderful film. The way it's shot really works well, every shadow and corner of the screen demands your attention. It's so tense too. A lot of times it will build you up for a jump scare that never comes and as a result, I was left with baited breath for far longer than I have been in most movies. This is a horror that knows what it's doing and knows exactly how to make the most of every second of screen time. Toni Collette is incredible here too and it's one of the best performances I've seen in a while.
It's just a shame the ending is such a letdown. Narratively it works, it just shows too much and goes too far and the end result is a tad silly. I wouldn't write the whole film off as I loved what came before it, but it's a shame it drops the ball so much in its final few minutes. Until then, this had 10/10 written all over it for me.

What if superheroes didn’t arrive on earth with the soul purpose of saving humanity? What if their main intention was to cause pain and suffering? This is the unique premise used in Brightburn to great effect and turns the superhero genre on its head.
Kansas couple Tori (Elizabeth Banks) and Kyle Breyer (David Denman) have been desperately trying to have a child, without success. When a mysterious object lands on their property they discover that all of their prayers have been answered – sound familiar? What begins as the perfect family life starts to unravel in sheer terror as their little bundle of joy turns out to be something far sinister, despite their denial that he might just might be a little misunderstood.
“It’s a boy”
I wasn’t sure what to expect with this one, but I was pleasantly surprised by how well it unfolded. There was a solid amount of tension packed with good levels of gore. The jump scare is a staple part of the horror genre but it can become tiresome if not delivered in the right way. Thankfully in this instance it works and works well.
Post credits deliver more to the story which has the potential to spawn a sequel, although I prefer the idea that this is a one off.

Hill House
The Haunting- doesnt live up to the oringal, now thats with most horror remakes, and this is one of them. Liam Neeson and Lili Taylor did a good job. Why cast owen wilson, he does nothing in the film but just say "wow". Catherine Zeta-Jones was just there.
The plot: This horror tale focuses on visitors to the secluded mansion of Hill House who have been called to the isolated location by Dr. David Marrow (Liam Neeson) as part of a study on insomnia. However, Marrow is really investigating fear, and he plans to scare the subjects, including the introverted Nell (Lili Taylor) and the seductive Theo (Catherine Zeta-Jones). Unfortunately for Marrow and everyone staying at Hill House, the manor is actually haunted by an evil spirit out to torment its guests.
Steven Spielberg talked to Stephen King about doing a haunted house movie, and the two agreed that Robert Wise's 1963 film "The Haunting" was a benchmark of cinematic house horror, but after they started writing, the two had creative differences. Spielberg agreed with King's idea to use the real-life Winchester Mystery House, in San Jose, California, as a source of inspiration.
