"Here’s a movie with a political conspiracy plot that’s all too real. Warren Beatty stars in this elliptical thriller, playing a reporter who insinuates himself into a murderously effective multi-national corporation. Startling, eccentric, and a scary-close approximation of the world we actually live in today, this film continues to stoke the twin fires of paranoia and mistrust."

"I’m not over this book. It’s so twisty and turny and exciting and scary and creepy and addicting. I’m a fan of interesting or unusual structure; this book, with its dual (and often conflicting) narrators, makes such excellent use of our own expectations of standard structure to keep the reader on their toes. Gillian Flynn is brilliant."

"I discovered Sam Fuller’s films when I was twenty, after seeing The Typewriter, the Rifle & the Movie Camera on IFC. I love how tough and authentic this movie feels. Gene Evans is so scary. The way he eats that cantaloupe and says “That man’s nothing but a corpse. Nobody cares who he is now,” is truly frightening."

"This TV show just knocked my socks off with its assured funny/scary tone, its welcome eccentricity, and its mind-blowing cast. When actors as compulsively watchable as Sandra Oh and Fiona Shaw take an almost backseat to an actor I’d never even heard of before named Jodie Comer, you know you’re in for something special. Just watch it"

"The dark lord of midnight movies. Lynch films are scary in a way that modern horror films seldom are. He talks directly to my inner child, to the nightmares of my seven-year-old self. It’s a singular cinematic experience. I remember watching this whenever it was on in London—Eraserhead and Blue Velvet . . . double bills . . . mmm."

"OK, Twin Peaks, which isn’t a film, but a TV series. Again, I watched that as a kid, and I just thought it was so weird and wonderful and scary. I just didn’t get it, but I loved the music. It was so, sort of, haunting. I’m putting everything from literally the age of eight to about 12."
