Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2395 KP) rated Adam Raccoon in Lost Woods in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Adam is thrilled to leave on his hike with King Aren. Adam just has a few things he wants to take with him. King Aren insists that Adam doesn’t need them. Will they help during the hike? Or will they just get in the way?
While the point of this story is obvious (this isn’t the Parables for Kids series for nothing), the story is fun and never preaches. Instead, it provides some laughs and a couple of scary moments along the way. The illustrations are a colorful addition to a wonderful story.

Lee (2222 KP) rated Hereditary (2018) in Movies
Jun 15, 2018 (Updated Jun 16, 2018)
Absolutely awful
I've just left the cinema having seen the highly anticipated movie Hereditary and I'm in shock. Not because it's scary, or unsettling, or any of the other things that so many glowing reviews have mentioned. No, I'm in shock because I don't think I've ever been in a cinema where so many people have walked out throughout the movie from boredom. Where so many people have laughed uncontrollably at scenes which are supposed to be serious and shocking, but are just plain ridiculous. And where so many people have all left the cinema commenting on how shit it was, and what a waste of two hours it was. This was just a complete and utter disappointment.

Entertaining
This movie was very entertaining. The small jump scares, dark visuals, sound effects and musical score combined with the great reaction performances by the actors gave this movie some top notch "creep factor". Some parts were pretty predictable, but it didn't take away from the entertainment value. The story played out nicely at a good, steady pace. The ties to 'The Conjuring' were ok, but unnecessary, as this is a great stand alone film. Might be too scary for little kids, but I thinki most teens(and some pre-teens) could handle it. If you like a good demonic tale, I highly recommend checking this one out. Worth a watch!

I think the topic of immigration is very relevant because we are always seeing immigrants arrive into new cities and sometimes I think we forget we all immigrated ourselves. Maybe hundreds of years ago but we are all immigrants, searching for a new land.
In my case, my dad emigrated from India as did my mum's parents. To come to a new strange land with different customs which you may have to follow in some cases is daunting. It's like when you leave the comfort of your own home and venture out into the big wide world, exciting but scary.

Dork_knight74 (881 KP) rated Truth or Dare (2018) in Movies
Oct 9, 2018 (Updated Oct 9, 2018)
Meh
This one on Netflix is labeled a horror movie but it's not scary at all. The cinematography was ok. The acting was mediocre. The effects were basically just run of the mill gore. The story was weak. Seems this movie was made just to have a bunch of people mutilating themselves in different ways. Supposed to be truth or dare but it was almost all "dares" or rather, "commands". There really was no plot of any kind. And when it was "explained" by a previous survivor of the game, she knew things that she couldn't have possibly known just from "playing the game". Poor excuse for a movie. Not really worth a watch.

An unnecessary sequel
As with all sequels, this one is pretty unnecessary. Whilst as sequels go it isn’t terrible, it just feels like it’s repeating the same old things over again, and not very well either. This film seems to have upped the ante on the gore and the body count, but it’s nowhere near as scary or creepy. It’s still quite entertaining and funny, it’s just not a patch on the original and the little twist at the end is a lame.
I’m shocked to see how many famous people are in this that I forgot about, namely Jack Black and Milton Dammers himself, Jeffrey Combs. Just a shame they couldn’t make this as good as the original.

Wow
FINALLY! A creature feature that is worthy of the genre! John Krasinski pulls out all the stops in this monster flick-directing AND acting in it. With hardly any lines spoken this movie has an intensity that is off the charts. There's really not much gore but the monsters may be a little scary for young kids. The cinematography, effects, acting and storyline are great. If you enjoy movies like Cloverfield, Allens and other intense monster movies you'll really enjoy this one. The kids in this did an outstanding job. It had a sad beginning but it only added to the dynamic of the family story. This one is really worth a watch!

Predictable
I've been meaning to watch this film for quite a while now particular when everyone was excited to see the second one when it hit the cinema. I didn't mind the film and it gave a few good jump scares. However, I just found that the ending was a bit predictable. The one thing I did like is that you never saw the identity of The Strangers. It was supposedly based on true events and I'd be intrigued to know what happened. The scary part about it is the fact that it is realistic and the concept of someone invading your home which you always consider your safe place.

Dont Have Sex
It Follows- is a very underrated film, that not of people have seen.
The plot: After carefree teenager Jay (Maika Monroe) sleeps with her new boyfriend, Hugh (Jake Weary), for the first time, she learns that she is the latest recipient of a fatal curse that is passed from victim to victim via sexual intercourse. Death, Jay learns, will creep inexorably toward her as either a friend or a stranger. Jay's friends don't believe her seemingly paranoid ravings, until they too begin to see the phantom assassins and band together to help her flee or defend herself.
Its scary, terrorfying, spooky, horroryfying, myserious, thrilling and more.
A highly reccordmend film.

It's funny (2 more)
It's one of a kind
It has some seriously catchy music
Not enough people have seen this!
Not many people I know have seen this so I tell everyone to give it a go.
A kids film, completely off the radar, as it's not branded (not pixar or disney etc) it's a German, Danish and Irish creation, about 3 children that take get into all sorts of problems. It bombed at the box office but it definitely didn't deserve the bad press, it's about family, loyalty, the importance of intelligence and a hint of magic.
It has funny, scary (for young kids anyway) , tense, lovable scenes that everyone can enjoy.
