I'm surprised this hasn't been done before
Okay so for starters this film isn't a scary horror film. It's not trying to be serious in the slightest and there are actually some bits in this that are quite silly and funny. The story is a good idea, however I'm surprised this hasn't been done before? This surely can't be the first time that they've come up with a horror version of Groundhog Day.

The twist wasn't entirely unpredictable and some of the acting in parts was awful - I'm assuming as it isn't taking itself too seriously that this bad acting is done purposely, but its still a bit worrying! Ultimately this is a entertaining film that isn't great, but its good enough to sit through and not want to switch off.

Saw wannabe
An average at best thriller, which is a mix of Cube, Saw films where a group of strangers wake up and wondered where they are and what their connection is. This time if they don't figure it out, one of them will be shot every 10 mins.
This films works on some levels but it's not that dramatic, the abductor isn't that menacing or scary and it fails to create the tension and suspense needed for a film like this to work. I have to add it's really low budget and the acting quite poor, Sabrina the teenage witch (Melissa Joan Hart) appears to have grown up quick, but no wonder I've not seen her in much since those days. To cap it all it has an odd ending which didn't fit.

This is probably even darker than the first book. I really like reworked fairy tales, and I think the characters in this series are more like the characters that the Brothers Grimm had in mind before they were told to rewrite them less scary (I still want to get my hands on the originals - they sound deliciously dark, like this book).

This is a great continuation of the first novel. It looks at how Alice and the other Hinterlanders settle in to life in New York, and Finch’s continuing adventures in The Hinterland. I can’t say much more than this without giving the story away, but needless to say, if you enjoyed the first book, you’ll love this one!

Many thanks to NetGalley and Flatiron Books for my copy to read and honestly review!

Shocking true story
At the end of the second world war Germany was on it's knees. People were looting jut to survive. Willi Herold was one such person. A deserter paratrooper, he was caught and chased by an officer and manages to escape where he finds an abandoned car and in the back a Captains uniform which he dons and takes the identity of. What follows is like an adults Lord of the Flies. This is a dark piece of history and hard to believe it is true. The director chooses ways of showing him surrounded by lunacy as they slip more and more into lunacy and darkness.
Brilliant film of a story I didn't even know about until I saw it.

"I heard The Afghan Whigs real early on and I was like, ‘Alright, this is like soul music but it’s played by white guys from Cincinnati, and I don’t even know if they can play that well.’ They eventually could play really well, and they turned me on to this whole other way of thinking that showed me you could mix all these things together without ever crossing over into pop music, which I felt when I was younger was just not something that I related to. Crime Scene Part One was a huge song for me because it was like a movie. It was brooding and there was something spooky about it, and then when you find out what it’s about it’s really scary. From there I went straight into Tom Waits.”"

An American Werewolf in London (1981)
An American Werewolf in London (1981)
1981 | Comedy, Horror
Off-beat horror comedy. Two American backpackers travelling through Europe are attacked by a ferocious beast in the Yorkshire Dales; one of them is horribly slaughtered, the other is less fortunate.

In with a shout as the best werewolf movie ever, although this is partly because of the lack of serious competition. The story hits all the usual beats, but is elevated by a knowing sense of humour (and jokes which really land) and Rick Baker's still-impressive make-up effects (it's hard to know which sequence Landis seems more fascinated by, the transformation or Jenny Agutter in the shower). A fascination with the weirdness of British culture, along with a supporting cast of great character actors, also helps to make the film distinctive. Very funny, very scary, occasionally very gory; a great horror movie.
