Rachel P (2 KP) rated The Selection in Books
Jan 4, 2018
The Selection follows America Singer as she is chosen as one of 35 girls who must compete to win over Prince Maxon. The book can be described as part Bachelor, part Cinderella, and part Divergent. It takes place in a dystopian society that uses a caste system. Of course, the prince is in the first caste, and America is in the fifth. The writing and storyline are not at all appealing to me, but I'm giving 2 stars because it was entertaining enough for me to finish, and it took my mind off school and studying for a few hours.

The first book in this series was a Sunshine State Young Readers book this year so I used it as a read aloud in my fourth grade classroom. They loved the first one so much I bought the second & third books. We finished this on the last day of school. They thought it was better than the first book & BEGGED me to start the third one. Lol! Then they were lining up to borrow the third one of the summer. They were all mad when o told the, I'd taken it home so I could read it.
Alison Pink (7 KP) rated Black Ties and Lullabies (Playboys, #3) in Books

Black Ties & Lullabies is a contemporary romance...not usually a book I would pick up on my own. I borrowed it from a friend after she won it on First Reads. It was an entertaining, light read, the perfect book to be reading at the start of the school year.
I enjoyed the story & the characters were interesting & well developed. So why 3 stars? Well, the plot itself was very predictable, maybe that's why I'm not so into romance novels. I like a little suspense & I could pretty much see every aspect of this story taking place before it actually did.

Surprisingly good
Quite a good premise as Kristen Bell's character goes through hell at high school. Only to discover years later her Brother is set to marry the girl who made her life difficult.
I didn't expect much from this but was surprised at the cast including Jamie Lee Curtis, Sigourney Weaver and even Betty White to name a few. Comedies around marriage seem popular in recent years and this reminded me of @The Proposal (2009) in many ways. It has similar humour based on the families clashing and settling old scores.

Quick and easy returns.
Beware false photos! (1 more)
Let’s be honest Amazon streaming service sucks. Owch.
Oh boy it’s Amazon
Amazon the killer of old school retail. Let’s be honest everyone loves shopping in their underwear. I mean does it really get better than that? You pay a small subscription fee which not only gives you free two day shipping. (Which has saved my butt one to many times). It also gives you excess to their streaming subscriptions, prime reading and prime music! What a steal!
ALilLacey (2 KP) rated Dragon Slippers (Dragon Slippers, #1) in Books
Mar 4, 2019
An imaginative story of dragons and a poor, plain girl named Creel. This is an excellent read for not only school age children but also adults. I loved the new take on dragons and what they all hoard instead of gold and jewels. The descriptions of dragons as well as Creel's dress work was vivid and believable. I could really place myself there with Creel and go through what she was going through, even down to her itchy feet while wearing her blue dragon slippers. Recommended! I can't wait to read the rest of the books in the series.

I have been binge watching this with my mom and we both love the show. I'd heard from a few friends that the pacing is too slow and while I can see what they're talking about, I don't agree. I find the flashbacks and the ghost easter eggs as well as the ways the storylines are being brought together to be very satisfying. I really like that while it has them, it doesn't rely on jumpscares. The acting is hit or miss, but the main cast are all very talented. I would definitely recommend watching it, especially if you prefer old school horror.
Movie Metropolis (309 KP) rated Final Destination (2000) in Movies
Jun 10, 2019
Released 17 years ago in March 2000, Final Destination revolutionised the teen-slasher genre for 00s after Scream did so well for the 90s generation of horror buffs.
The premise was perfectly realised as high-school students tried their best to cheat death after a horrific disaster. The plane sequence in this film still holds up today and remains one of the best horror moments in the last couple of decades.
The acting on the other hand, left a lot to be desired. Though a young Devon Sawa was a magnetic leading presence.

Funny when I was a kid
The story of two best buds who like to make practical jokes and write a comic book about their principal which they named him captain underpants. The end up hypnotizing their principal into believing he is this rather dumb superhero. He can be un hypnotized by getting hit with water or put back in hypnotized for by one of the two boys snapping their fingers. The reason they want to keep him in this hypnotized form is so that they dont get split up at school cause together they just make trouble.
