I saw this not knowing too much about it, although heard it got bad reviews. It's impressive in terms of scope, production and cast. The plot and story seem to have been made up of quite a few well known plots from other sci-fi films. Definitely felt like a mix of Stargate and even Star Wars attack of the clones at times. The big budget visuals and action does keep your attention though as do the actors on show. Overall it was quite enjoyable.

Sci-fi writings have been the dreams and places of inspiration for scientists for years past and this book shows that Star Trek is no different. A look at the items from the show that have or are becoming science fact, this book is well presented and easy to navigate, it goes into depth on some of the more familiar elements from Gene Roddenberry's world. With many, many images to break up the science, this could almost be a coffee table book, definitely recommended.

I’m chilled by the sensational dystopian sci-fi thriller Snowpiercer (2013), now streaming (finally) on Netflix UK
While it works well as a dystopian action thriller, it’s a much more complex and layered film than it may appear at first glance. There are moments of comedy (both light and pitch black), subversion, searing social commentary and shocking violence and although the film isn’t afraid to wear its bleak, nihilistic heart on its sleeve, it does so without alienating or disengaging the viewer....

Entertaining Sci-Fi film
A really good film that feels low budget but with blockbuster SFX. I didn't realise at first from the trailers it was a hand-held cam, POV film and this is handled very well with the kids abilities! Really good effects as they become stronger with their powers. Only downside the film is far too short at 77mins, the end felt kinda rushed and obvious as well. Still a very enjoyable film though, while it lasts.

This book had such a huge impact on me as a young reader.

I had been introduced to sci-fi/fantasy via C.S. Lewis and Tolkien. I was accustomed to allegory and metaphor in storytelling.

Frank Herbert introudced my young mind to literature that could be an amazing example of world-building, character development, and storytelling, but also embody a political activism that, rather than feeling didactic, becomes an essential element of the plot.

Dune is still the gauge by which I judge all other science fiction.

Found another great sci-fi drama/ thriller on Netflix called "Ex Machina"(not Netflix exclusive). The acting and cinematography were really good. The story unfolds beautifully and ends with a really good twist. This is a really thought provoking movie about technology and keeps you interested throughout. Alicia Vikander was amazing. She played her part perfectly. There is some full frontal female nudity, but not sex(deals with robots that look human). Not really for kids, but this one is really worth a watch!

A sci-fi fantasy that draws you into the world of mental illness, four seemingly unrelated people converge , a suicidal daughter, a jilted lover, a futuristic vigilante and a father seeking his lost son. A fantastically shot film, that will need you seeking the ending, and it won't disappoint.
