"While most people tout “The Color Purple,” and rightly so, I love, beyond measure, “Possessing the Secret of Joy,” which is a not quite sequel to “The Color Purple” about Tashi, the wife of Celie’s son Adam, and how something that happens to her body at a very young age shapes the rest of her life. This is the novel that taught me how to write fiction with political ambitions. It is searing and wondrous and painful and every time I read it, the ending wrecks me. And still, I go back for more. That’s how important this novel is."

Lots of great action and yes it's a bit light on the story, but it's not completely terrible. It's a fun popcorn movie and if you're a fan of the Mortal Kombat games like me, it's not a bad ride. I did love Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion because he's a really talented actor and he made the role work for him. It was disappointing that there's some characters missing like Johnny Cage, but maybe we'll get to see him in the sequel. If you take it for what it is, pure entertainment it's a good film.

"I can tell you a recent book I read that I was incredibly moved by: I read Olive Kitteridge when I was making United States of Tara, and it was my introduction to Elizabeth Strout's writing, who I think is so incredibly talented," the Unbelievable actress told OprahMag.com. "She knows and understands humanity on a level that very few people can express. So I was given an advanced copy of the sequel, Olive, Again—and man, I couldn't put it down! It moved me to tears. I laughed out loud, and I just love everything that Elizabeth Strout writes"

How Jean Reno didn't become a household name after his performance in Leon is incredulous to me. Pairing his stellar performance with that of a villainous Gary Oldman and a VERY young Natalie Portman and you have an acting trifecta for the ages. Matching Besson's direction tit for tat allowed this squad to create one of the more memorable movies of its time. Leaving no potential for a follow up, you begin to realize it simply had to be that way. And I believe Besson understood that. You can't replicate the level of excellence this movie achieved and call it a sequel.

Creature feature from the year 2000, starring a then up-and-coming Vin Diesel as the anti-hero Riddick, one of the survivors (that includes Farscape's Claudia Black!) of a crashed spaceship on a planet that has a unique day/night cycle: no nights, except for an eclipse once every 22 years. Which is when the rather nasty nocturnal creatures come out...

Much better than the direct sequel (there's a reason the third film in the mid 2010s went back to this version of the character), with an interesting colour palette and even a nice character arc for Riddick!
