Scott Tostik (389 KP) rated The Toolbox Murders 2 (2013) in Movies

Okay.... So.... This is a sequel???
Before we go any further... If you don't know who Chaintel Lewis is in the horror world.... Then we can't be friends anymore.
Lewis is a one-handed actress. She lost her hand in an accident but didn't let thay stop her.
Anyways. Keeping this short and sweet... Like i wished this movie was... Two words for you.
Background Noise.
While trying to grasp at the original from 1978. This movie fails to get a grip on the origonal content. Man kills people with objects from a toolbox.
The remake, which this is the sequel to, is jist as bad. I can usually always find the silver lining in any gore filled horror fest... But I just couldn't wrap my head around this one.
Kudos to Chauntel for doing her best to try and carry this one. But, it just didn't peak my interest.

Charlotte Ozanne (108 KP) rated A Bad Moms Christmas (2017) in Movies

Before watching this film, I thought it was a spin-off to the Bad Mom's film series, I did not realise it is actually the sequel to the original film. I was a bit dubious as to how this movie would entertain, as most sequels tend to be worse than the original. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the Christmas version as it bested the first film. In my opinion, the comedy was top-notch (no surprise considering the immense cast). I would definitely recommend this film, though please take note of the age certification - it is 15 for a reason! I don't think you need to have seen the first film in order to watch this sequel. I couldn't remember the content first film despite remembering watching it at the cinema with my mum. There's only one small scene which ties the first film into it but you get the gist of what happened.

The second of the Sam Raimi Spider-Man films is a shining example of a comic book sequel outshining it's predecessor. Everything is better, the set pieces, the characters, the effects, and the stakes are higher.
Spider-Man 2 owes a lot to Alfred Molina. His performance as Otto Octavius, and later, Doctor Octopus is pure villainous perfection, whilst lending the character a sympathetic undertone. Spider-Man has a fantastic rogues gallery to chooses from, and Doc Ock is one of the more complicated ones. This movie does the character justice.
Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, James Franco, J.K. Simmons and Rosemary Harris all return from the first film and all cement their positions in movie history as these beloved comic characters.
The effects look a little dated by today's standards, but they're still more than passable, and another great score by Danny Elfman is the cherry on top.
Spider-Man 2 is both a strong sequel, and a strong comic book adaption.

Why is he still shirtless?
I was quite surprised to see this sequel pop up to surprise hit @The Babysitter (2017) featuring all the original cast. Set 2 years later, although 3 have passed since the first film was made. This time Cole is now at high school and even more of an outcast as no one believes what happened in the first film. It's not long before he needs to face his demons once more.
A good idea on paper perhaps but this is a big step down from the first. Largely due to the setting but really missing Samara Weaving who barely features this time round. Which is a real shame. You definitely need to see the first to get a lot of the in jokes from events of the first. Definitely one sequel that doesn't come close to the original.

Not a Good Follow Up
Contains spoilers, click to show
I enjoyed the first Ultimate Avengers Animated movie but the sequel seemed to lack the punch the first the one did. There were a couple of story lines I did not care for. The first one was Captain America and Black Panther having the same antagonist. That part of the story seemed weak to me. The next was not an enough Hulk for me. Yes I am a big Hulk fan and I am little biased when it comes to him. They killed off Antman and Tony Stark wore the War Machine armor. Two more aspects of this movie I did not like. The most intriguing thing to me was Thor and his vision of the Avengers all dead. Overall you don't have to watch this movie as a sequel to the first. It's not the worst movie but I can do without it.

Real life issues, that I genuinely still live by.
The forgotten sequel to a classic
Louis Sachar does it again with this sequel to the classic Holes. I loves Holes when I was at school so it was only natural I'd pick this one up.
I know many people that love Holes but haven't even heard of this book. Because of this, over the years I have loaned my copy of this out unfortunately with no return which I will eventually get round to replacing because I LOVED this book.
It's not the longest book, when I was a teenager that was what drew me to it tbh but as an adult I still love it.
It's got some wonderful moments in, it's a book that I think might even be taught in schools (in the UK Holes by Louis Sachar was one).

Some decent creepy moments
The first time I watched this I remember being ridiculously creeped out, mostly from one of the final lines that explains the stranger's motives. On watching this again, it is a little disappointing.
My main issue with this film is with the actions of the main characters. None of what they do to try and save themselves makes sense, and neither of them are made out to be likeable or endearing either, to the point where you really don't care what happens to them. It's a shame as this does have some creepy moments, from the "he's behind you" type scenes to that motive reveal at the end - these were really enjoyable.
I never thought I'd say this, but in the case of The Strangers the sequel is definitely better. These two films seem like worlds apart and sadly I think this original film is lacking in a lot that the sequel gave in abundance.
