Chris Hooker (419 KP) rated The Miseducation of Cameron Post in Books
Jan 12, 2018
Camron has her first kiss and her parents get killed in an accident that night. She feels it is her fault and it creates some self loathing. She does know she can not change who she is. Unfortunately her conservative Aunt who takes custody of her thinks she can. This is a very different coming of age novel. It really gets to the idea of being sure and unsure at the same time when you realize you like people of the same sex as you. The character of Camron is very complex. Even though she is rough around the edges you are cheering for her. Her aunt and others you want to punch. Love her grandma though just wish she was stronger. The setting in this story is as important as the characters. It is almost a character of it's own. Especially Quake Lake, which runs throughout the story. Interesting thing is that Quake Lake is a real place and the earthquake describes really did happen. I read another book about that. I just wish the story of Cameron had continued.

I love Kirstan Higgins so much. She's a good writer, she's funny, she's clever, her characters are awesome, and there's always a cute dog or cat.
Also she rocks at writing kissing scenes. WOW!.
The number-one thing I love about her novels is this: She writes these awesome contemporary romance novels, but she doesn't litter them with explicit sex, which I DON'T like to read (I mean really, I feel like I'm sneaking into a XXX movie when I read stuff like that. It's private, man! The characters don't want you to know what's going on under the sheets!).
Anyway, Until There Was You didn't disappoint. Liam was amazing, Posey was sweet, Nicole (the daughter) was adorable, and the family was family: a-typical in every way and funny and weird and full of life. I love it. I wish I could keep this book forever instead of bringing it back to the library. I tore through this thing in like five hours... I stayed up until 4am reading.
But hey, other people have to read it too, right?

Haley Mathiot (9 KP) rated My Heart and Soul in Books
Apr 27, 2018
Randall has done something scary and risky: She has taken her interior monologue, her thoughts, her hopes and dreams, insecurities, fears, loves and hates, and written them out into long picturesque poems for the world to see. I know I could never expose myself the way she has… It was encouraging to read her works, to get inside her head. It was uplifting to see the trust and the security she has in God, and encouraging to know that there are people out there who feel like you do. She wrote about painful subjects like cancer, doubt, death, but also had some more touchy subjects like fear of never being loved again, racism, and sex—though she did it all in a way that doesn't feel uncomfortable.
I greatly enjoyed these poems, and have found myself flipping through the pages on several occasions, just re-experiencing the things she has to say and the experiences she has to share. My Heart and Soul is well worth the buy.

Awix (3310 KP) rated High Life (2019) in Movies
May 13, 2019 (Updated May 13, 2019)
Art-house sci-fi movie takes the genre to a place it has never been before, but not necessarily somewhere you'd actually want to follow it. A ship-load of death-row inmates are launched into space to go and perform experiments on black holes; along the way nearly everyone's sex drive gets the better of them and there are tears (along with most other bodily fluids) before bedtime. And at bedtime. And after bedtime. Yes, this really is the plot.
High Life presumably is an attempt at a grand statement on the human condition, but ends up looking more like what would happen if the Big Brother house was sent into orbit - this is a film with a bleak, squalid, misanthropic outlook, not helped by its total lack of humour and increasingly odd and confounding plotting as it continues. It betrays a certain familiarity with the history of the genre, has reasonable production designs, and Pattinson's performance is not bad. But it's a strange, repugnant, impenetrable film with little actual entertainment value.

ArecRain (8 KP) rated Bedtime Stories: A Collection of Erotic Fairy Tales in Books
Jan 18, 2018
I love erotica. The only thing I love reading more than erotica is fairytale erotica. I had high hopes for this book, and while the book didnt meet the expectations that I had, it pleasantly surprised me. I was expecting something along the lines of what Nancy Madore writes about. Instead, I received a handful of very creative stories that were expertly written.
Not all the stories actually had sex in them, yet did have something that made them erotica. Each story also had its own world, story line, and character to it that made it special. I particularly loved the Beauty and the Beast story which, while being exceedingly different from the original (and Disney) story, it still held true to the beauty is not only skin deep theme of the tale.
That is how all the short stories of this novel are. Some of them, I wish had become full on novels of their own because of their great plotline. As an erotica novel, it fizzled. But what it lacked in eroticism, it definitely made up for with creativity.

ArecRain (8 KP) rated Say You Love Me (Malory-Anderson Family, #5) in Books

This is one of those novels that has you smiling even after you have finished and placed it back on your shelf. First of all, it is very realistic, especially historically. I cannot tell you have many historical romance novels I have read that is completely of sex. Not only that, but they make the female protagonists out to be strong, independent woman who are so unique against the rest of society that the man immediately falls for her because she is different.
False!
If either of these is in my historical romance, I immediately assume it is trash and donate it. I am unique heroines, in the right time that is. I like my history to be accurate thank you.
Not only that, but I loved the humor. Despite villain and Kelsey's circumstance, it was a pretty lighthearted novel filled with laughter, an simple plotline that was easy to enjoy, and a great continuations of the novels that came before it.
I cannot, however, give it a five due to the predictability of it.

I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review
An interesting story, to say the least. It was a different concept and I appreciate that. However, there were times when I didnt understand what was going on. The beginning for instance. I know he controlled air, but the passage itself was hard to grasp. I wasnt sure that what I was visualizing in my head is what the author intended.
Overall, it was an enjoyable read, especially if you are looking for more erotica than story. While there was a plot, and it was fairly interesting, the sex heavily outweighed the story.
I suppose I am biased, however, since this novel was exactly up my alley. I love erotica, and I love stories that involve people who can control elements. Besides witches/warlocks, they are my ultimate favorite paranormals. However, if the author wasnt skilled, I wouldnt have enjoyed this story nearly as much. Despite the random scenes I found confusing, it was an enjoyable story.
