The Hunter’s Prayer (2017)
The Hunter’s Prayer (2017)
2017 | Action
Sam Worthington pushes himself as an assassin hired to kill a teenage girl as he struggles to face his own demons - addiction, his past as a soldier, and his lack of relationship with his own teenage daughter. The movie is action from start to finish with not a lot of great suspense or unexpected plot twists. However, for an action flick, its rather mild presentation (minimal swearing, not overly graphic, no unnecessary sexual content) plus the realistic potrayal of the emotions the hunter and the hunted must work through, this is an enjoyable movie!

There are 2 things I want to say about this audiobook.

1. The narration does not fit the feel of the book. The narrator would be great for a kids story but not for an adventure story like this. So if I were you, I would read it, not listen to it.

2. When I first started it, I had my doubts; but about 2 chapters in, I knew I was hooked. Even though the narration irritated me, this story is so involved, exciting, entertaining, and all-consuming, that I am dying for the next one. I am so excited and will be waiting for the release date.

If you love adventures, pirates, revenge, and a little hint of magic, this one is for you.

Content/Recommendation: Some violence and mention of sex, but no sexual content. Ages 16+

This Netflix "teen drama" original isn't so original. It's basically a modern day "Fatal Attraction" (showing my age? Lol) with high schoolers. It wasn't too bad, though. The acting was decent enough and the cinematography is on par with many modern movies. Nothing too graphic in this but has some mild sexual content and violence. I found myself asking the same question I always do with movies like this.... Why aren't the characters a little more honest and a little smarter? Lol. Guess it wouldn't be very dramatic and definitely wouldn't last long enough to be a movie. Overall I'd say it's worth a watch if you can't find much else.

Weird
This was a strange one. The acting and cinematography were just ok. The story was, well, strong with the "strange" factor. The main character was just plain crazy(is there such a thing?). In the description it says she's "unstable". That's putting it mildly. She comes of art first as shy and lonely but keeps making the worst choices she could make throughout the whole movie yet things end up basically covering up her craziness. Anyway, overall this really wasn't very entertaining. Nothing too graphic(some mild sexual content and violence)but not really for kids. Which doesn't matter because it's NOT worth a watch.

Good when you need something stupid
I like many of the actors in the movie so my rating is skewed towards the positive due to my inappropriate laughter imagining them saying their lines and the relationships between the actors. My boyfriend and I wanted to watch something funny and stupid; Sausage Party fit the bill. Most of our laughter was accompanied with eye rolls and shaking our heads, incredulous at what was being said or done. The jokes are crude, sophomoric, scatological, sexual, and filled with inappropriate stereotypes. We saw it on cable and it was edited for content so I'm sure the theatrical release was much worse. It's Seth Rogen. What more can I say?

I couldn't put it down! It's definitely an action-packed thriller, with fantastic characters and exciting plot twists. I just had to know what was going to happen next! I love that is clean with no foul language or sexual content, but it is kinda creepy and becomes violent at times, so I'd save this for older children and adults as it'd probably be too scary for little ones. E.R. Fowles paints a vivid picture from start to finish, so it was almost like the movie was playing out in my mind as I read. It should totally be made into a movie someday! Stacie Robinson

Great podcast, but not for everyone
I absolutely love this podcast. Yes, some people might find it offensive, but...honestly, I think it's kind of their goal, to get people talking about things that most Christians usually find taboo, and maybe change your mind once in a while. I think it's awesome what these guys are doing, and love what they stand for, even if I don't always agree with them.

Notable past guest speakers include Jamie Tworkowski (founder of the nonprofit To Write Love On Her Arms), Lecrae, David Crowder, Stephen Christian (Anberlin), and Jon Foreman (Switchfoot).

The thing about Ellen Hopkins is she writes about the stuff that everyone knows happens, but nobody is willing to admit to. She gives emotion and reason to why people make the choices we do, and what they feel like in the middle of a messy hurtful situation. She is the opposite of happyland syndrome. She tells it how it is.

I had read a little bit of Hopkins's work before: I started Crank (When I say started I mean read the first few pages) and loved it, but I was busy and never got the chance to get into it. But I got an ARC of Triangles, so I sat down and read it—and after one page I was hooked.

If you've been reading my blog at all, you know I'm not a person who likes stories about love gone wrong and marriages failing and extramarital sex etc. because I'm a Christian, and a romantic, and a softie (read 'wimp'). But I went ahead and dove into this book, because I knew Hopkins is a good writer.

It surpassed my expectations. I should have expected her to be this awesome, since obviously she's pretty famous and everyone else figured it out before I did, but I really am blown away, not only by her blunt yet graceful storytelling, but by her nerve to tackle the stories nobody wants to tell: a dying child, a gay son, a pregnant teen, sexual disease, threesomes, a woman sleeping with her best friend's husband… it's all in here. Yet, it's not plot overkill. She made it work. Somehow.

Though, be warned. Since she does say it like it is, this book is not for the easily offended. But if you're willing to look past the content, there's a gem waiting for you about forgiveness, hope, and what love really means.

Content/recommendation: explicit sexual content, swearing. Ages 18+

I Hate You, Kelly Donahue

Mark hates Kelly Donahue. He is going to fight her to the death. and kill her. physically. This journal contains his research, data, death plans, and detailed drawings (well, or not so detailed, but still entertaining) of what she will look like when she is dead.

After finishing this book—and while I was reading it, for that matter—I really wasn't sure what to think of it. Was Mark in love with Kelly, but in denial? was he literally insane? Who knows! Either way it was hilarious.

I can't tell you much about it, because it's pretty short, and if I give you any more details than I have, reading it won't be as much fun. I recommend if you like humor, graphic novel-styled books, or journal-esque novels, grab this one next chance you get!

I'm going to have to keep this one on my "I'm bored out of my mind and I need a good laugh at someone's obnoxiously violent sense of humor" shelf.

Yes I totally have a collection of books like that.

Content/recommendation: A little bit of strong language, some (not explicit) sexual content, and drawings of… body parts. Ages 18+
