The Shark looks very real
Great characters
Will make you scared to go in the sea
This film probably terrorised my generation as kids. That sense of primal fear will have you on the edge of your seat, or hiding behind the sofa the second the score kicks in!

An all start cast and how the cgi makes this movie better than Jaws when it comes to the shark looking realistic. (0 more)
Jumpscares were a tad lack luster and the story line to get Jason Stathams character a new girlfriend confused me. It's a horror/thriller. (0 more)
Favourite movie of 2018!

The Shallows (2016)
The Shallows (2016)
2016 | Drama, Mystery
It does grip you (when you are eventually introduced to the shark) (3 more)
Blake Lively does well to pull off the role as the movie's almost exclusive focus
Some beautifully shot scenes
You genrerally share the fear. It's a simple premise - stuck in the ocean with a big shark!
The first part of the movie exists to develop Lively's character but takes far too long (5 more)
Endless, unnecessary shots of Lively's 'rear end' cheapens the movie in its early stages
You get a LOT of blood from from a leg wound
Nothing new here - feels like an amalgamation of a few other better known movies
Some plot holes
That electronic music!
Jaws meets Castaway

Steven Spielberg’s first true blockbuster is one that has been copied but where those films tried and failed to replicate this formula, Jaws remains at the pinnacle of shark attack cinema. Filmed on a tiny budget, this iconic classic had people absolutely terrified of swimming in a pool, never mind out in the open ocean.

The special effects are crude by today’s standards but the cleverly positioned camera means the shark is rarely seen on screen for more than a couple of minutes and John William’s excellent score remains a cinema highlight for many. For films set at sea, Jaws just can’t be eaten.

Now I have to say that I’ve been looking forward to seeing The Meg ever since I first saw the trailer a while back and at the time I had no idea that the movie was based on a series of books by Steve Alten, with this movie based on the first book, “MEG: A Novel of Deep Terror“, suffice to say I’ll be grabbing some of them to read very soon. Shark movies have become a little stale of the last few years and to be honest they have never thrilled me as much as Jaws, but The Meg certainly adds a whole new twist to the shark movie.
