BookInspector (124 KP) rated The Yellow Wall-Paper in Books
Sep 24, 2020
This little book had 3 stories: The Yellow Wall-Paper, The Rocking Chair, Old Water. They are all very different, but scary nevertheless. I didn’t get time to get used to the characters, because the stories are very short, but I did like their personas. The first two stories had a very strong ghost element to it, the third one had a very strong punch at the end.

Absolutely beautiful artistic renditions throughout. Amazing soundtrack. Great story. Being from the same folks who brought us Your Name, I had very high hopes. I wasn't disappointed, but there were a couple of elements present that I didn't think added much and maybe even detracted a bit, which is why I stopped short of offering a full TEN rating. Still remains a wonderful work that should be checked out.

In this collection, Rachel Joyce connects seven short stories that span from just before Christmas Eve through New Year's Eve. What is most interesting is that Joyce not only arranges these tales chronologically, she also links them with other elements. You can read my review of this book (that I'm giving 4.5 stars out of 5) here. https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2017/04/15/the-eves-of-winter-stories/
The Chocolate Lady (94 KP) rated Enchantress of Numbers: A Novel of Ada Lovelace in Books

Jennifer Chiaverini’s historical fiction novel about Augusta Ada King-Noel, Countess of Lovelace, takes us back to 19th century England, to discover a woman whose mathematical insights may have been instrumental in making the essential the connections that led to today’s computers. You can read my review of this book about the unfortunately short life of Lady Lovelace here.

The Chocolate Lady (94 KP) rated Fall of Poppies: Stories of Love and the Great War in Books
Oct 7, 2020
In honor of the 100th anniversary of the end of the first World War, I wanted to remind my readers of this book. Nine amazing historical fiction writers contributed to this beautiful collection of short stories about the end of World War I. Find out why I give this book a full five stars in my review here https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2016/08/21/nine-times-november-11-1918/
The Chocolate Lady (94 KP) rated Brides in the Sky: Stories and a Novella in Books
Oct 7, 2020
As promised, my first book review of the New Year is for "Brides in the Sky" by Cary Holliday, which is a collection of mostly historical fiction short stories and a novella. If you ask me, shorter fiction is harder to write than novels, and you can find out if Holladay succeeded with this format on my new blog, here https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2019/01/04/inconvenient-separations/
The Chocolate Lady (94 KP) rated Tokyo Performance in Books
Oct 7, 2020
I'm not going to put a full review up on my blog for this little book, which is too short to even be called a novella. This is a lovely character study story about a very troubled Japanese chef. Gently written and filled with humor, it is also quite sad. I don't recall which blog I found reference to these "Red Circle Mini" books, but thanks to whomever it was! Delightful!
Leanne Crabtree (480 KP) rated The Banshee's Embrace (The Banshee's Embrace Trilogy, #1) in Books
Jan 12, 2021
3.5 stars.
For quite a short story it kept me entertained. I liked the romance and the continuous action throughout.
This was only my second foray into banshee's, though in Rachel Vincent's Soul Screamers series they aren't described as such, and I enjoyed it. The storyline was intriguing and kept me guessing who was behind the murder.
I look forward to continuing the series at some point in the future.

Leanne Crabtree (480 KP) rated In a Dark Wood (In a Dark Wood, #1) in Books

In a Dark Wood I'm a huge fan of Josh Lanyon and whether it's a long story or a short one he always manages to draw you in. This was no different, though I wasn't expecting it to be so creepy.
I really like both Luke and Tim and can't wait to see what happens next with these two.
