The Chocolate Lady (94 KP) rated The Beginner's Goodbye in Books
Oct 7, 2020
Tyler knows how to write not just about ordinary people, but ones who are flawed, so that we see their flaws through them far more vividly than the people around them. This short novel focuses on loss and mourning and if there are things we find hard to believe that can become believable in certain circumstances. Unlike the other short M/M book I've read today, I didn't particularly enjoy this one. It started good but I lost interest once things started heating up between out decorator and gardener. It just didn't grab me, it was all sex with no feelings...maybe I'm being unfair by comparing it to the one I like better earlier, but that's the way I'm feeling right now.
I won't be continuing the series.

Helena (24 KP) rated Mary Poppins Returns (2018) in Movies
Sep 25, 2019 (Updated Sep 25, 2019)
I didn't think this was a necessary movie to create. The original was wonderful and full of laughter, while Mary Poppins returns felt like it was trying too hard to be the original. Nevertheless I do like some of the actors they choose and appreciate the talent they shared. And I liked the ending song and scene (that felt like Mary Poppins to me!) In short: sequels in Hollywood aren't ever quite as good.

AT (1676 KP) rated After the Quake in Books

This is a fictional book of short stories. Each story focuses on a character and his or her life in a period of time after the earthquake in Kobe, Japan in 1995. I think the book was probably better than I think it was. Honestly, I think I'm thinking too deeply about a couple of the stories, and I'm missing the simplicity. The stories were all interesting on a personal level, though.

Best book I've read in a long time
I loved this book and have read a few of hers since, the book is well written with a good balance between scene setting and dialogue. The female main character is believable and fits well in the time frame. There are enough twists to keep you going without it being hard to keep up with the narrative.

Just watched so no spoliers here just short review it's okay don't know if I would watch again but they left it open for a sequel so maybe I will watch it to see what happens next the effects are good. But the worst part of the movie is Dame Judi denchs accent but the rest of the movie is okay especially for families to watch together
