Candle Cove and Other Stories

This was an interesting collection of short stories. It reminds me a little bit of the scary stories from the dark but an adult version and a bit more dark. I really really enjoyed the candle cove story. That was very interesting. All of them were good though and I enjoyed it

I remember reading this book when I was 11-12 years old and let me tell you, it is one of the funniest books you will ever read. The stories are short, which is great for anyone with a short attention span, not much time for reading, or just looking for a quick laugh.

The story, itself, wasn't very interesting. It laid the groundwork for an attack, but it lasted for the whole volume. The two short extra stories at the end of the volume were more interesting.

Excellent early stories from the Triffid author
Excellent collection of early short stories from Wyndham that delve into different sci-fi genres. Though it was written in 1930 through to 1938 they are still suprisingly fresh and interesting.
They are a powerhouse of excellent literature and is a great introduction to his later novels such as Day of the Triffids, The Midwich Cuckoos and Chocky.

"[Brackett] was my teacher. I imitated her, of course. She had those beautiful short stories in Planet Stories about John Stark, they were all Edgar Rice Burroughs par excellence. In other words, she could write better than Burroughs. She took the same sort of things he did: the fighting man of Mars, the gods of Mars, the Martian stories, but gave them that extra ambiance, style, and imagination."

This little book had 3 stories: The Yellow Wall-Paper, The Rocking Chair, Old Water. They are all very different, but scary nevertheless. I didn’t get time to get used to the characters, because the stories are very short, but I did like their personas. The first two stories had a very strong ghost element to it, the third one had a very strong punch at the end.
